has anyone noticed that there are no bees this year? i saw a few fat lazy bumblebees in the spring buzzing around my holly tree, but after a few days they weren't there anymore. i haven't seen a single bee since. it didn't hit me until my parents mentioned it a few weeks ago, and now i'm a bit freaked out... seems there's something mysterious that's killing bees worldwide, and it's going to be a doozy for food prices soon because we need bees to pollinate a lot of our crops. there's a story about it here:

i just... eek.

There are a few unproven theories. There is a new imported aphid that has killed some, but not in the quantities reported. Chemicals in the environment and cell phone transmissions are the other suspects, but hard evidence is lacking.

Neil Gaiman got himself a couple hives for this reason.

the strongest theory is the cell phone / wireless networks one - disrupting migration for several insects, esp bees.

I noticed this, too.

I was talking to my parents about this today, and they said they have more happy bees around their new house than they know what to do with.

So I guess all the bees are just hanging out in Hardwick, NJ.
