i can't stop giggling. my new mattress was delivered this morning, and i just keep looking at it and cracking up. it is HUGE. i literally have to CLIMB into bed now! i have to stand on the frame and haul myself up onto it. even angus, after he jumped up there for the first time, had this look on his face like "WTF???"

get a load of this. so, this is my old, sad, 13-year-old mattress... the first mattress i ever bought, for my very first apartment:

now, look at that photo and make a mental note of how much of the headboard you can see, even the gap towards the bottom. because this is the NEW mattress:

you can just baaaarely see that gap if you look in the lower left area of the photo! this monster is at least 8 inches higher than my old one! it is higher than my waist:

good lord, i'm going to fall out of bed tomorrow when i get up. if i ever get up, that is... i have a feeling i'm going to sleep for like 20 hours once i sink in.

What an upgrade!

My mattress is only seven years old or so, but it sucks. I'm thinking of getting a Select Comfort one, but I'm not sure. What did you get?

It's eerie how similar our bedrooms are in terms of layout, architecture and color.

i got a sealy something-or-other... it's a queen-size pillow-top. sears was having a sale on them, 50% off plus an additional 10% off with a coupon i had. but good lord, they've gotten so expensive... my first mattress cost $400, this one was $2000 before all the discounts and stuff! sheesh!

did you get the special sheets for it? that was a big shock with my first pillow-top. . .you have to buy expensive sheets for your new expensive mattress. but what an investment!!

we were just watching "how things are made" last night. . .on mattresses! coincidence?!

also. . . i remember hearing/reading/seeing on TV that after 3 years, a mattress doubles its weight from sloughed skin and bed bugs!!! blech!

All I can say is "Good call." re: having it delivered on the weekend. Like you said - tomorrow morning, you're going to want to sleep in a bit.

:)

Have to do the bed search myself very shortly. The whole futon thing is getting a bit old for this older-than-my-years body.

We got a new mattress too! And I have to climb in it. My boyfriend offered to get me doggy steps so I could get in easier. Jackass.
