new year's eve was a ball. took a good dance workshop, held my own in the jack & jill competition (i didn't make finals, but i don't mind), got to finally talk to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] on the phone, had an impromptu cocktail party in my room, and danced my butt off until 1:30am. oh, and managed to deflect a makeout session with S without too much drama. *grin*

driving home to philly today. it's funny, i'm actually looking forward to going. i've had a blast over the last week here in boston, but it'll be good to be in my apartment with my little fuzzy dude following me around.

so, here's my jump-on-the-bandwagon 2005 recap/2006 resolution meme, ganked from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]...

2005 Top 40 Q's

1. What did you do in 2005 that you’d never done before?
Bought a car. Saw an animal die. Got a tattoo.

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Nope, didn't keep a single one. I'm not too concerned though, I'm just makin' them again for this coming year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep! [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] had her little dudelet 2 months ago.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Monkey passed away in October. It was the worst thing I've ever gone through. Also, the Boston dance community lost an amazing friend... Joellen ran a monthly west coast swing dance, and was just the nicest, spunkiest, most loving person... She died of a stroke a week ago.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. I'm changing that this year!

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Inner peace. 2005 was filled with so much stress and turmoil... I hope to find some calm both inside me and around me, and get more grounded.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory?
October 19th. It's the day Monkey died, and the day I also found out I was being promoted and had to transfer to Philly.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
God, getting through it! Dealing with so many ups and downs (mostly downs) without taking it out on too many people.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not keeping myself as healthy as I could have.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing huge.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new furniture. I feel like more of a grownup now, having stuff that's not from Ikea. Oh, and my 2 Shag art pieces. The beginning of a growing collection, I'm sure.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friends from work. They really rallied around me during my down times, more than I imagined they would.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Ugh. My friend M, who continues to slowly spiral downward in her frustrating social behavior. Our government. Some people in my company who I had unpleasant interactions with.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Vet bills. Rent. Food, especially takeout.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Meeting D in February. It was the first time in a long, long time that I had met a guy in person (instead of online), and I was crazy about him at the time, which is such a fun feeling. I'm glad we're still friends, even though the romance fizzled out. Also, my tattoo. It took me 10 years to decide what to get... Once it hit me, I wanted it on me immediately. I love it.

16. What song/album will always remind you of 2005?
Hrm. Probably "Gold Digger"... It was everywhere, and so damn catchy!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. happier or sadder? sadder
b. thinner or fatter? fatter
c. richer or poorer? poorer

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Getting out and about on the weekends. D and I spent pretty much every weekend sitting on the couch, eating takeout and watching TV. I missed a lot of things by staying indoors with him.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Eating all that takeout. It cost a fortune, and was awful for my health.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Xmas was spent with the family, watching DVDs and eating meatball sandwiches.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Probably my co-worker K, because we'd talk on our cell phones as we were heading to our sales calls. But I actually hate talking on the phone anymore, I feel like it's such a time-waster.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Well, there was D... I'm not sure if it was really love, but it was cool.

23. How many one night stands in this last year?
None.

24. What was your favourite TV programme?
Rockstar: INXS and Project Runway.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No, pretty much everyone I dislike has been at that status for a while now.

26. What was the best book(s) you read?
"Dry" by Augusten Burroughs, and all the David Sedaris books. The goal this year is to finally read all the Harry Potters.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Mark Erelli. I never thought I could like folk music until D introduced me to him.

28. What did you want and get?
A promotion! A tattoo! Great times with good friends.

29. What did you want and not get?
For Monkey to hang on a little longer. Knowing how my life is now, her passing when she did was absolutely for the best... But I had really hoped that she'd live a few more years.

30. What were your favourite films of this year?
Good Night and Good Luck... Murderball... Shaolin Soccer and Kung-Fu Hustle.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 35 this year. The birthday itself was low-key because I had to get ready for my move... But I celebrated a week later with my bash at Felt. Had a blast, it was exactly what I needed after my crazy year.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
One? I'll have to choose the obvious -- if Monkey hadn't been diagnosed with cancer.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Schizophrenic. Simple suits during the day, jammies as soon as I got home, sparkly clothes when I went out dancing.

34. What kept you sane?
Going dancing, vegging out with Monkey in my lap at home.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
They all drive me nuts. I still have my mini crush on Mark Feuerstein, which I think is being replaced by my long-standing crush on Bill Henley (local weather guy, for the non-Philly folks).

36. What political issues stirred you the most?
The war, Katrina.

37. Who did you miss?
My Boston friends.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't meet a lot of new people, except for D, so I'd have to say my new karaoke buddy. If nothing else, meeting him has given me hope for actually meeting new people and developing some sort of a social life in my new place.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
That even when life is supremely awful, you can get through it. It may not seem like it at the time, but if you just take it day by day, it's dealable.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
"Pressure... pushing down on me, pushing down on you..."

Thank you for being persistant in our game of telephone-tag, I enjoyed the opportunity to chat with you [*glances at list* even if you're not fond of using the phone... heh ;)].

Oh, and I looked again - according to the estimate, it's only 6½ hours on the road, not 8... and I'm sure it can be done in 6... LOL

Safe travels back to you're place! Even though you probably won't see this until you're home :)
