well, last night's oscars party was a big success. it was one of those gatherings where you just get the right group of people, even though many of them didn't know each other, and the chemistry was just there. D made it after all, as did J and [livejournal.com profile] the_cook... all in all, i think we ended up with 10 people. we went through almost 4 bottles of red wine, several pounds of pasta, and enough homamade meatballs to satisfy a week of atkins dieting. the bundt cakes turned out well too, despite a minor fiasco in the afternoon... i paused an IM chat with D to check on them, only to discover that the cakes were puffing WAY too much out of their wells and were merging into one huge, amorphous, vanilla mass that threatened to destroy my oven. (note to self: in the future, don't put the entire batch of cake mix in the pan.) but after some cuttin' of the extra cake at the bases, plus some powdered sugar and raspberries (oh, and a lot of amaretto poured onto each one and allowed to soak in for a few hours), they were good enough to eat.

everyone really liked D, which wasn't a surprise. several times when i was in the kitchen, different people came in and whispered, "he's so great! wow, good job!" i just smiled, when inside i was thinking, "uh, we're not really dating. i can barely get the man to look at me." he fit right in with the group, which was great because we all laughed our butts off all night. seriously, every single thing someone said was funny... my stomach hurt within the first half hour of the show.

the party broke up around 11:45 once the whole ceremony was done... everyone grabbed their coats and hats to leave, and i noticed out of the corner of my eye that D was lingering and not getting his coat. a-ha, good sign. i hugged everyone goodbye and shut the door, and then it was just D and me, alone. we chatted for a few minutes, he mentioned that he hadn't met monkey (she gets freaked out and hides when big groups are over)... so i brought her out of hiding and they had a little introduction... then we just sort of stood there in the living room making awkward small talk. finally, he was like, "well, thank you for the food and the invite..." i thanked him for coming over... and he said "okay, bye" and walked out the door. muthafuckah! so, once again, i'm left not knowing what the hell is going on. seriously, after i closed the door, and he stood on the other side of it waiting for the elevator, i had to fight back tears, i was so frustrated. argh.
