...went really well! yay me! i actually managed to drag my ass out of bed at 5am after only about 4 hours' sleep... i went to bed at 10pm, but didn't fall asleep for hours after that. (i think it was the cocoa before bed... i ate a lot of "last chance" junk yesterday -- takeout chinese, doritos, cocoa, etc. and i think the cocoa gave me too much sugar and caffeine before bedtime.) getting up was such a struggle... even when i was eating a yogurt and sitting in front of my light box waking up, i was thinking, "well, if i go back to bed, i can get another hour and a half of sleep..."

but i didn't. i changed, drove to the gym, and joined the 50 or so people already there pounding away on the cardio equipment. (how can someone do a full run at 5:20am??? i'm amazed.) did 30 minutes on the treadmill, got my HR up to 136... then did abs and stretching for another 20 minutes. i have to say, even though it was a beginner's workout, i felt great when i was done. energized, proud of myself, and very awake. i have low-carb muffins in the oven right now and coffee brewing, and i feel like i can really start my day! now, the key will be doing this every weekday... i figure i'll work out monday thru friday (alternating upper and lower weights each day), and give myself the weekends off.

my biggest fear: pooping out when the weather gets bad. SELF, if you read this in the dead of january when there's sleet falling from the sky every morning, listen up: do NOT give up if the weather stinks! if you can't go at 5am on any given day, take an exercise video and place it right on the sofa so that you see it and do it when you come home from work!!! gwen stefani does not get her awesome bod by making excuses... and you know you'll feel great about yourself after!!!

on that note, one last thing... so, my gym has been doing this national 30-day challenge, encouraging people to work out for 30 days straight and see their before and after pix... and it turns out, a guy in my town won the national prize ($25,000)! his before and after pix were amazing -- he went from completely flabby around the middle, to much leaner! he's no hardbody, but he's much more proportioned. and that's what i want -- i'll never be britney spears, but it wouldn't hurt to have a bottom proportionate to my top.

weight: 151 (didn't weigh myself before the gym... that's my weight from this weekend, i'll start there.)
