2 days ago, i was watching one of those "driven" shows on VH1 (about kid rock, if you must know. it was really interesting.) usually, i ignore the commercials, unless it's something really funny. but during this show, a commercial came on that almost stopped my heart. PETA is actually running a TV ad now, that shows animals being slaughtered. and not photos, either... video. i won't describe what they showed, because it's really really sick and sad. i am amazed that it was even allowed to air, it was so brutal and graphic. and the thing is, the ad accomplished exactly what they wanted: i've been sick at the memory of those images for 2 whole days.
the problem is, i don't know what to do now. i've always struggled with being a meat eater, because i love animals so much... i look at everything as a baby, even mice in the house or squirrels or pigeons on the street or whatever. i can be upset for a whole day if i see an animal that's been hit by a car. for most people, like my ex, the solution would be to become vegetarian... but i can't. i'm allergic to soy, and beans and nuts can cause flare-ups of the awful stomach problems i had last year... so there go the main protein sources of a vegetarian diet. so i try to eat a lot of seafood (i rationalize that those animals aren't as highly conscious about their deaths), rarely eat beef, and if i buy chicken it's usually organic.
so, here's my question... does anyone know, is organic farming different from regular farming in the way they put the animals down? i know there's a difference in living conditions (organically raised animals are free-range and are fed normal food instead of hormones and stuff to abnormally fatten them)... but is the, i hate to say it, slaughter process any more humane?
*sigh*.

Of course, you could always boil them alive instead if you prefer shellfish like lobster to more normal fish.
That being said...I'm a meat eater, and always will be, even though I am also an animal lover.
On a side note, PETA also likes to oversensationalize things by finding the worse possible examples of something gone wrong, and calling it common.
Even most animals eat meat...why should we be any different when our digestive systems are all designed for it?
