mother nature at her best
Dec. 26th, 2004 08:15 pmit is snowing like crazy here, and it is absolutely beautiful. NOW it feels like christmas. it took longer than i'd hoped to get home, because the snow hit us right as we entered massachusetts, and the roads weren't salted or anything... so i drove the last 45 miles or so in driving snow, in the dark, with 3 inches on the ground and very little traction. (and thousands of other cars coming back from their holiday weekends.) we (the ex and i, he asked for a ride home again) made the best of it, listening to the weather news on the radio and ripping on each other mercilessly, which has always been the hallmark of our friendship.
i got home safe and sound, and managed to find parking on the odd-numbered side of the street. (in my town, if they call a snow emergency, anyone parked on the even side gets towed. there was no parking ban called, but i didn't want to take any chances.) i unloaded all my stuff in my apartment, and looked at the clock: 6:30pm. i'd been trapped in the car for 8 hours, and really needed to stretch my legs. but, i had some work to do before bed, and there was a message from M wanting me to call her so that she could hear what i got for christmas and she could ask me all about my drive home. argh, the stress! so i looked around, said "screw it", and bundled up in multiple layers to leave it all behind and go play in the snow.
davis square was so nice in the snow, and so quiet. the only noise was the occasional whoop of a police siren... turns out they were calling a snow emergency after all. i stopped in starbucks for a cocoa, and brought the steaming cup back home so i could enjoy it in front of my pretty christmas tree with some candles lit. by the time i walked home, i'd been gone maybe 20 minutes... and in that time, everyone parked on the even side of my street had moved their cars. god, that was fast! so, it looks like i'll be late to work tomorrow... since i'm on the road all day, they make us wait until it's safe to go out. nice way to ease back in after the holiday. :)

me in the snow (i had to take like 50 pictures, this is the only one i could get where i'm not wincing because i'm getting snow in my eyes)
