yesterday was an awesome day. it wasn't anything huge -- went to the gym, went to a museum exhibit*, had lunch at an outdoor place, got a pedicure, nommed some awesome homemade grilled ribs for dinner -- but it was just nice. it was nice to be outside in the sun (and it wasn't 97 degrees), nice to be out and about with my boyfriend instead of watching TV all weekend like we usually do, and nice to have my paycheck in the bank (yay!) so we could actually have lunch while we were out instead of driving home starving to see what's free from our fridge. i went to bed very happy.

i have an idea for a TED-type talk that could be a lot of fun. (no, it isn't about hula hooping.) it came to me on friday and has been popping into my head all weekend. it wouldn't be right for something like Ignite Philly because the whole "slides change every 15 seconds" thing wouldn't go with the form of the talk... but maybe a TEDx one, if i actually had the confidence to submit the idea. i'll have to do some research on the topic, flesh it out a little more and see.

i left one last note for the devious mommy blogger, this time on facebook. i was very nice about it -- "hey, found your FB page from your website, i think my e-mails have been getting blocked in your spam filter, can you give me an update on the review you promised over 2 months ago?" i have no expectations of a reply after all this time, and will probably have to come to terms with the fact that she stole a hoop from me and i need to let it go. grrrrrr. GRRRRRRR.

god, i thought i had so much more to write. oh well, maybe later.

My two cents sez she views the hoop as exercise and doesn't wanna, has never picked it up, and is trying to forget it ever existed.

She has 2 hooper friends, which is why she sought me out... She e-mailed me after getting it, telling me how much fun she was having and asking for pointers. I think she just wanted free stuff and figures I'll go away if she ignores me long enough.

Do you know the 2 hooper friends?

Just askin'.

Drop them a quick line, sweet and professional. With a link to their friend's blog, no hoop review.

Or let it go... and hope she trips on it and breaks an ankle (wait, is that not letting it go?).

B!itch.

no, i don't know them. however -- i'm thinking i should warn some of the other hoopers out there who teach in her area... it's possible that she could reach out to them asking for a free DVD or lesson in exchange for a review. i may go onto the hooping boards and post a quick warning (mentioning her site, not her name).

Would an ignite format help as a 'sampler' to get your feet wet before submitting to something like TEDx?

Also - re: warning other hoop crafters / dvd makers: Yeah - I would warn them. There are entire lj communities dedicated to warning illustrators of deadbeat portrait clients.

i thought about that... but i'm not sure the structure of the talk would lend itself to the rapid-fire slide changes of Ignite talks. i'll see once i actually go to an ignite talk (hopefully to see jill!) this fall.
