the snow started falling steadily about an hour ago. all is well for a snowy morning -- jack is snoring upstairs, angus is hunkered down on his favorite blanket, and duck is staring wide-eyed out the window at the stuff falling from the sky. i'm feeling a bit nostalgic for boston though, wishing i could bundle up and trudge down the street to redbones to have a beer (or three) and some ribs with all the other snowed-in folks in davis square. i'll have to settle for heading out in jack's car in about an hour to get a bunch of hoops to the post office so that customers will get them by xmas eve.
i really thought the orders were starting to die down yesterday... we had a bunch of orders on wednesday, and thursday was rather quiet. then yesterday while i was out and about i checked my e-mail from my iPhone, and had an order. OK, i'd make that when i got home. when i got home, there were 2 more in my inbox. i called jack at work to say "make a couple more hoops and bring them with you tonight, we're running low". right after that, i checked my inbox again and had to call him back: "um, i spoke too soon... make more." it was crazy. so that's how i spent my vacation afternoon, making a bunch of hoops while watching "real housewives of orange county" reruns. :)
i did decide to brave the mall yesterday, and i'm definitely glad i went in the morning. the news had said that some stores were open as early as 8am, so i went there at 9am and much of the mall was ready to go. got a good parking spot, wandered around and window-shopped for a couple of hours, and by the time i left at 11:30am the place was mobbed and there wasn't a parking spot to be had in the lot. definite timing win on my part. so i got my little dose of xmas retail spirit, went home happy, and spent the afternoon making pretty things for people. that's a damn good vacation day for me. :)
okay, time to bubble wrap a bunch of big sparkly donuts... and then see if there's any chance i can still keep the plans i had today, or whether jack and i are trapped here at home.
