well, i guess if one is going to end their tv-turn-off experiment, it's best to end it with a bang...

i spent 2 hours watching "the surreal life" on VH1 last night. ::cringe:: what a freak show. my stomach had been bothering me again all day (i took sick time in the afternoon, 'cause i didn't think barfing on a customer was an appropriate sales tactic), and by like 8pm i was so tired of the pain and the retching and everything. i figured watching tv for a bit before bed might take my mind off of it. i was sure right. i didn't watch the 1st season of it because, well, i think the concept is stupid... but this time i just got completely sucked in.

for those of you who have never heard of "the surreal life", VH1 basically takes 6 b-list celebrities and puts them in a house for however long, and then films the whole thing. this time, it's charo, flavor flav, jordan knight (from new kids on the block), ryan starr (from american idol), dave coulier, and brigitte nielsen. it's an odd mix of people, to say the least... but the oddest by far is brigitte nielsen. she's drunk within one hour of moving into the house, wakes up long enough to drink more and chain smoke for a while, while she walks around the house naked except for an apron and a paper hat... then she passes out and misses most of dinner. um, ew. but wait, there's more... somehow, because of some freak planetary alignment, she and flavor flav decide that they're soulmates (this after they slapped each other across the face early on), and over the next several episodes they are snuggling and making out in the pool and she's crawling into his bed naked. brigitte nielsen. and flavor flav. who's like 2 feet shorter than her. i was literally screaming at my tv, it was so uncomfortable.

the thing is, because of the breakup on sunday night, i should have been watching this nut-fest while shoveling a huge container of Phish Food into my face. but noooooo, i decided to start the south beach diet on monday morning... so i had to settle for a delivery of spicy green beans and steamed shrimp and broccoli from the local chinese place. i will say, despite the challenge of it (especially this week), it's working... i stepped on the scale this morning, and i'm down 3 pounds. huh.

i slept like a rock last night. maybe my body just gave up after 3 days of pain and 2 nights of no sleep. i woke up this morning relatively rested, and the stomach pain is gone. was it from "the surreal life"? you decide.
