need advice... my iPhone sounds aren't always working. hrm. i can play music, and the settings say all my sounds are on... but i can't hear my phone ring, and i get no sound when i use various apps (e.g. games). it's been this way since i used it in my dock at home to play music last weekend. any thoughts?

that's the way mine behaves when I have the mute switch (upper left hand side of the case) engaged.

you probably know about that switch though and wouldn't be asking if you hadn't ruled that out, but maybe the switch is defective and the phone thinks it's engaged even if it looks like it's not?

Except that I've totally done this and it's totally been the switch. So maybe, just maybe, even though Jenn is way smarter than me.

i've switched the mute switch on and off a number of times over the last few days... no change. *weep*

Take that iPhone to the Apple Store. The store where they started wearing the cool t's, have the long tables, setup all their hardware right there to touch and feel, and don't, I repeat, Don't bust out in line dancing.

I've had a defective iPhone (didn't vibrate when it rang), they exchanged it right there... and while there, the apple stuff is sooooo purty!!!!

Sync and back up. Then take it to the Apple Store. If you got AppleCare, they'll probably just swap it out for another unit.

I'm assuming you've rebooted the sucker a billion times already, right?
I'd try powering it down, toggling the mute switch, the powering it back up again.

... then sync/back up and take it to the Apple Store.

I meant to reply to this earlier with some sort of declaration about how much I rule...
(I tend to shut it off/turn it back on about once a week, to reset its memory)
