so, i'm in the pharmacy to get my tummy meds. as i'm leaving, there's a young woman looking a bit distressed at one of the registers. she's young and indian, in a beautiful sari... and she's standing with her shopping cart. in the cart are a bunch of bagged items, and a very young child. she's upset because the clerk is telling her she can't take the cart to her car, she has to leave it in the store... and as i half-overhear the conversation, i can gather from her strongly accented english that she won't be able to carry everything (small child and a cartload of bags) to the car by herself. the look on her face as i walk out the door seems so panicked... so, my heart breaking for this young mother in a foreign country shopping by herself with her little one, i go back in the store and around to her register and offer to help. "hi," i say, smiling... "here, i'm walking out to the lot now. i'll help you." she gives me a funny look... and points to the tall male clerk walking over to help her. ah. so i wish her a good day and go out to my car. but after i get situated and go to back out, i see them all coming out of the store: the little girl walking along with no problems, the mother with nothing in her hands but her keys... and the clerk, looking confused, carrying maybe 5 bags, which are filled with toilet paper. that's it. so this woman didn't need to carry her child and a bunch of heavy bags... she could have easily carried her light stuff to her car while her little one walked alongside her. what the hell...

now, i owe the manager of the boston swarovski store an online apology. this is the guy i ranted about the other day, who told me that an item i wanted was sold out without even checking. well, i got a voicemail from him today... he did check around for me, and left me the phone number and manager name of the chicago store, which still had a few left. so i was able to call up and get them shipped to me, and i'll have them sooner than the ones from philly (which i am not cancelling... i'll have a head-start on my xmas gifts). so he took longer to get the info, but he got me a more direct line. so there we have it, i was wrong.

I'd say only half an apology for the guy. It's all about attitude and, as your title would suggest, first impressions. He gave a bad first impression, leading you to believe that he didn't give a sh*t about what you wanted, treating you in such a way to completely be turned off by that store. All he had to do was tweak his attitude a bit and you wouldn't have been quite so perturbed by him.

Good for him on the follow through, but I think he still needs to brush up on his presentation skills.
