i guess i'll make it day #4 (yesterday). still going well. i will admit, i turned on the today show for 2 minutes (literally) at 7am yesterday... i'd read online about the 2 russian planes crashing, and figured it was major news. turned on the tv, and their lead story was the olympics. *sigh*. almost 100 people lost their lives in an apparent terrorist act, and you have to lead with women's beach volleyball? (guys on here, don't answer that.) so i turned the tv off and went about my morning.

the tv thing was a bit hard yesterday afternoon, since i was home from work sick on the couch. the tv would have been the first thing on in the past, to keep my mind off the nausea and all. but i was a good girl, i read my book instead.

in the evening, i was feeling a little bit better, so i caught up on some paperwork for work and did some chores. went to bed early, since i have my gastro appointment first thing this morning. and, uh, that's it. woo. i would have had all sorts of exciting stories this morning if it hadn't been for the tummy... i was supposed to go to karaoke last night at 10pm (who the hell starts karaoke at 10pm on a wednesday??? god, i feel so old), so i'm sure there would have been an adventure or two. perhaps next week.

I enjoy reading about your TV turnoff. I turned mine off right after I graduated from college (1999) and didn't go back, except for a brief few months in grad school. Now, I don't have cable or bunny ears, just a DVD player and a lot of time to read. :)

Once you get used to it, you'll never miss it. Now an NPR turnoff...that would be another story.

see, i feel like such a loser... i just can't get into NPR. what am i missing?

i'm not ready to give up my cable... that would take, like, years of therapy and some serious psych meds to get that to happen. ::chortle:: but i have a feeling that, after this week, my tv viewing will go way down.

I grew up listening to NPR, so it's partially just what I'm used to. I really enjoy how deeply they delve into a lot of issues, and how little hype there is. TV news makes me more agitated than 40 cups of coffee. Of course, so do commercials. And talking heads. And "reality" TV, and celebrity-gossip-as-news.

Pop culture makes me uncomfortable. And NPR is about as un-poppy as I can find. Except "This American Life." That's just kickass.
