happy election day!
Nov. 4th, 2008 05:47 ami tossed and turned all night from excitement, and finally got up at 4:45. now i'm just waiting a bit until i walk over to my polling place (i love being right down the street from it!). i was excited about the last election, but that was nothing like i'm feeling now. there's so much i want for our country -- i want the rest of the world to stop looking at us with disdain, i want us to be more personally responsible with our finances and our health, i want my cousin to someday be able to marry his partner of 20 years. i know that one person elected into office can't single-handedly make sweeping changes in our country, but he can start to guide our country in the right direction and try to build momentum. i read a city paper article the other day that reminded me that 8 years ago, one of the big presidential debate topics was what to do with the multi-billion-dollar surplus that we were sitting on... and look at where we are now. so if one man can be at the helm as we sail towards financial destruction, another man can right the rudder and start to guide us out.
happy election day, everyone. i hope you all have the sense of excitement that i do.
ETA: i'm back from the polls, i was the first to vote at my place... and i'm all weepy.
