happy hoopy weekend!
Oct. 5th, 2008 10:06 pmi had a couple of awesome hoop-related experiences this weekend that i just have to share.
1. i made the video below... this was me goofing off in my local park and not caring who saw me or what they thought. i'm working on my whole "feeling self-conscious" thing, i can get absolutely paralyzed when hooping in public sometimes and i want to get over it. so friday night after a long hard work week i threw a flower in my hair, threw a hoop and my video camera in the car and spent an hour lightening my mood (and then promptly went home and passed out). i'm thrilled with the video, it was tough to edit almost an hour of footage down to 1 minute but i think i captured most of the mood (including a couple of mistakes that i had to keep in because they cracked me up). one thing you can't tell is that there were people all around me, there's a jogging trail right next to those grass stair things and there were a ton of people pushing strollers, walking dogs... in one part you can see me laugh because some kids were like, "wheeeeee!!!" when they saw me. heh.
2. saturday afternoon was my dance studio's annual BBQ at a state park near the studio. jack and i brought a few hoops because it was one of the last nice weekends we'll have for a long time... and people went CRAZY for the hoops. i thought he and i were just going to go off to the side somewhere and goof off a bit... instead, everyone was practically fighting over using them! people were asking for pointers, tricks, anything... and i went from person to person, coaching them on what they wanted to learn. a few people said that the studio should have me do a workshop or classes, including one of the rockstar salsa teachers! hee! so perhaps this week sometime i'll e-mail the studio owner and see if she'd be up for it. who knows!
oh! so here's the video... happy sunday!

Date: 2008-10-06 02:03 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear that folks are being so encouraging about a class. It seems like it would be something that would be really fun to do. Given that you're a trainer by profession, and your madd skillz with the hoops, I'd bet large sums of money to the fact that the class will be awesome!
