Sep. 21st, 2008 06:45 pmwhat an awesome weekend, on so many levels! new people, new experiences, accomplishing stuff that's been hanging over my head for forever. where do i start...
friday night
ms_violet and i, along with our men, partied in the woods. yes, i typed that right. M, a philly-area hooper i know virtually through Tribe, had invited me to a get-together she was planning and told me to bring along a hooper or two. so at 9:30pm, after finally meeting her IRL at her house, jack and i found ourselves trudging through the woods in the pitch black with a bunch of strangers to find a fire pit in the middle of nowhere.
ms_violet and V were running a bit late, and called my cell to get directions to the park where we were, which turned into comedy gold as jack tried to give them driving directions while hiking uphill in the dark. it was very "blair witch" -- everyone was zipping up the hill ahead of us, dodging giant rocks and tree roots in the path because they'd done this many times before... while jack and i lagged farther and farther behind, shouting into my cell in the darkness. about 5 minutes into the hike, we stopped and looked around... jack was like, "uh, V, we're having problems right now... we've lost the rest of our group and we can't see a thing." thank god jack had a flashlight on him, and we just kept to the bumpy path until we found the group another 5 minutes later, off to the side in a little clearing at the top of the hill. whew.
jack took his flashlight and my cell and walked back to fetch our peeps, while the rest of the group set up camp. within a few minutes blankets and chairs were scattered around the area, and a fire was blazing in the pit. it was a gorgeous early-fall night, just a bit of a nip in the air, perfect to be outdoors under the stars. but MAN was it dark -- if you looked anywhere past a few feet from the fire pit, you couldn't see a thing. it was crazy. within an hour, as more people joined the party, there were maybe 30 of us hanging out... making s'mores, sipping port right from the bottle, smoking cigars. we met a bunch of lovely, friendly people from all different walks of life, and got to hoop a little bit near the fire (although hooping on a hill = super hard. wow). we packed it up a it before midnight, and after an awesome diner burger i went home and passed out for about an hour before angus spent the night keeping me awake. little jerk.
saturday i spent a chunk of the day napping, trying to make up for the sleep angus stole from me. i wanted to make sure i was rested, because that night jack and i were once again doing something new -- going to a concert in someone's house. i'd never heard of house concerts before, but supposedly they're a big thing up in boston (boston peeps, ever heard of this dealio?)... basically people hold concerts every month or two in their living rooms, they find singer-songwriters who have an extra day off in their city while touring and invite them to play at their place... and they charge admission, all of which goes to the artists. so at 8pm saturday night, jack and i found ourselves sitting on folding chairs in the little living room of a sweet young couple's duplex in media, watching a paul & storm concert with about 20 other people. it was a riot. people sat on the sofa, on the stairs, back into the dining room. and the house was just a regular house -- baby toys everywhere, it smelled like cat litterbox, piles of books and CDs sat on the shelf next to where P&S stood in front of us. they put out a plate of hummus and pita and some veggies for us in the kitchen, along with some cans of soda. and we all had a blast, i'd go to one again in a heartbeat. at one point i looked over at jack, as we sat in a stranger's living room, and grinned, "don't ever say i don't bring interesting experiences into your life." heh. to be honest, jack and i are thinking of looking into doing some at my place, i could fit quite a few people in there. hee! so IJG or joe trainor trio peeps, if you're looking for an extra gig to make a couple hundred bucks, let me know... whee!
today was a bunch of yardwork in the gorgeous sunshine, jack and i ripped out my brick patio and the forest of weeds that had taken root in my back flowerbed. after a shower and a much-needed nap, i cruised out with the top down to my favorite sushi place, did some reading over a lovely dinner... now i'm parked on my couch, trying to stay awake while a crockpot full of homemade split pea soup simmers in the kitchen. the whole house smells like bacon fat, garlic, and onion. yum. ahhhhhh, happiness.

I didn't know these LRCs were that popular.
BTW, I bought that IKEA chair you have in your guest room! It is now sitting in front of my sewing machine. It matches nothing, but I like it for inspiration while sewing.
