today at lunchtime i ran over to the local Salad Works to grab a to-go salad for a lunchtime meeting in another building of ours down the street. i'm not a huge fan of the chain, they always water down their dressings and put 2 teeny toppings on 5 pounds of lettuce... but today they pretty much lost me as a customer.

i ordered a fiesta salad, which is basically a mexican salad with corn and black beans and stuff. they have a salsa ranch dressing, so i asked for that as the dressing. the employee, in a rush, grabbed the wrong ladle and put a big blurt of sesame vinaigrette on it before i could stop her. "oops," she said, "wrong dressing. but it's only 1 scoop, is that okay?" with that, she grabbed the correct ladle and went to put salsa ranch on top of it. i had to stop her in mid-ladle and tell her no, i didn't want two dressings mixed together on there. "so... what... you want a NEW salad?" she asked in exasperation.

\the best part is, the MANAGER was just as exasperated with me for wanting a new salad. i'm sorry, but if i'm going to pay $8 for a pile of lettuce, i at least want it to taste right, not with 2 totally different dressings nastily plopped on top. and these people couldn't comprehend that, and i found myself apologizing to them. "i'm sorry, i don't like vinaigrette, that's not what i asked for," while they gave me a big heavy sigh and threw my ingredients haphazardly into a new bowl. grrrrrr.

Weird! Weird weird weird, that nobody on the premises had the slightest grip even on the idea that the customer is always right, for starters. And then the more advanced concept that you actually WERE right, of course, but that's asking a lot? I guess?

dipshits.

I don't necessarily believe in the "customer is always right" motto as it gives some people a false sense of entitlement to be able to treat service people like absolute crap ["I'm the customer and I'm always right, therefore you will do whatever I say..."]. That being said, there is no excuse for these wingnuts to cop the attitude they did. They were obviously wrong, they should fix their mistake, without question.
