this was the first weekend all summer so far, i think, where jack and i didn't have it planned to the hilt with various obligations. it gave us a chance to catch up on some normal boring stuff (errands, etc) and have some couple time as well.

friday: blobfest didn't happen. well, it happened, but not with us in attendance. we got ridiculously lost on the way to phoenixville, and drove all over the county to try to find the town. no luck. but on the way, we'd seen a mini golf and frozen custard place, so we decided to head for home and stop there to salvage the night.

this place was phenomenal. within 5 minutes we'd named it "Mini Golf of the Damned". it had been built in the late 1990s, but it looked about 50 years older because the upkeep has been so poor. the wild west theme was made creepier by the fact that everything was falling apart -- a cowboy figure had a chunk of his head missing, a rusty bike (how is a bike "wild west"?) lay on a hill as if its child owner had been abducted and the bike never moved... a static-y black and white TV eerily played clips from "gilligan's island" over a distant abandoned tiki bar (again, not very wild west-y). the course winds up and downhill through overgrown trees. the pond on the property was full of green muck and sported a dead crab (a real one) on its bank. but the best part of all: they serve indian food in the main building. yes, when you go to turn in your little golf club, you can order up a heaping plate of samosas to eat on the deck overlooking the course. hee!

saturday was a day full of errands, and jack and i had planned a date night for that evening but hadn't firmed up any particular logistics. we had talked about dinner and a movie, but i figured we were winging it. late afternoon, as my toesies dried in the local nail salon, i got a call from him: "Can you be here in an hour? i have our night planned, and we need time to get to the restaurant." considering that *i'm* always the planny one, i was intrigued, and hightailed it out of the salon to change and head up to his place.

what a FUN night! we had dinner at honey, a restaurant we'd heard was fantastic but hadn't tried yet... the reviews IMO were too restrained. we've had some amazing meals on our vacations, and felt bummed that we had yet to find a local restaurant that was of the caliber of some of those far-away places... but this won. WON. everything we ate was eye-poppingly good. especially our PB&J dessert: grilled peanut butter and marshmallow on fresh brioche, with a honey-banana sauce and homemade strawberry ice cream. oh my god.

one unnerving thing: doylestown (where the restaurant is) has actually become hip. both of us grew up in that area, and hated it... but sometime in the last 5 years or so, it has turned into this (oh my god, dare i say it) FUN place to spend an evening. like, fun enough that i would consider moving there... it's the closest thing i've found to davis square since moving back to PA. all the old crappy alleyways from my childhood have been turned into sexy candlelit outdoor seating areas for funky restaurants... and the rest of the boro is a walkable bounty of coffeehouses and shops. AND the old arthouse movie theatre is still in operation, yay! we were both amazed as we walked around and rediscovered the area. after dinner, we caught some live irish music at puck, and then rolled home still stuffed from dinner and collapsed.

so, today was more errands, but i sailed through them because i was giddy from friday and saturday's outings with mah man. they'll definitely get me through the next several workdays. :)

consider it done! pick a weekend anytime before the weather gets cold, and we're there.

> Doylestown is hip

Huh!

This stuff is a sane distance from the train station?

I wonder if there's a supermarket in walking distance too.

I was very favorably impressed by the habitability of Media when I helped Shelle unpack. They even have a Trader Joe's in the downtown (although not a more conventional supermarket, I think).

Cool!

I am also impressed by the towns on the PATCO line, which runs 24-7 smack into Center City. The shitty night schedules of SEPTA are such a lose.
