* i am pretty much finished with my vacation shopping... all that's left is a book to get lost in while i'm lounging under my big umbrella, piña colada in hand. i'm really excited to wear the clothes i bought -- i went the total opposite of my usual black everything, and picked up several cheery sundresses and some bright tank tops. perhaps i'll never go back to black! (yyyyyeah.)

* i've been stressing over a tour i wanted to surprise jack with while we're away... i wanted to take him to one of puerto rico's biobays. a biobay is a body of water with a high concentration of these teeny organisms called dinoflagellates, that light up when they're agitated. you can take a tour where you kayak into the bay, get in the water, and swim around... the act of swimming agitates the little suckers and the water lights up around you. it sounds like the coolest thing, and i thought jack would love it. i was having a hard time booking it though, because the only biobay where they let you swim is on vieques, which is a 90-minute ferry ride from the main island and we'd have to stay overnight 'cause the last ferry back is too early. i was looking into chartering a boat and everything, and it wasn't coming together... i finally came clean to jack, and his response? "oh sure, dinoflagellates. i've seen them already." (note to self: stop forgetting that your boyfriend was a marine biology major.)

* sex dwarf on friday night was amazing as usual, but i wasn't 100% feeling it. (i should have taken that nap beforehand! i'm too old to stay out late without one!) i left around midnight after this group of uber-drunk 21-year-olds bumped into me one too many times while they were staggering around taking pictures of each other to prove they were having OMGSOMUCHFUN!!!!! *sigh* regardless, it looks like jack and i are going to next month's 80s prom, who's in???

* six words: french onion soup mac and cheese. oh sweet baby jesus, is it good. i made it tonight and it is my new favorite mac and cheese, hands-down. if you make it, be aware that it takes longer to make than the recipe says (the onions take about an hour to caramelize, not 15 minutes). but whoa are those 3 hours worth it. *happy, full-bellied sigh*
