this was the longest 4-day week ever. i can't totally explain why, except that my days were jamp-packed and my evenings had various obligations and stuff. but it should have flown with so much going on. *shrug*
one of my "obligations" last night was a cut and color at my salon. WAY overdue on that one, i was starting to look homeless. it's amazing how much better you feel after you get a good haircut, i feel like i can hold my head high again... there were a few weeks there where i was just trying to figure out how to look human before walking out the door. speaking of haircuts, one of my teammates came in to work yesterday with the "Posh" cut... she looks amazing. i have to say, victoria beckham drives me up a wall, but her stylist came up with a damn good cut.
i saw a horrible thing on the today show the other morning, that's still stuck in my head.
they were reporting a story on an "animal mill" that supplies PetSmart with a lot of their small animals. they breed and sell mice, hamsters, bunnies, etc. they're under investigation for mistreatment of animals (the mill, not the store). they actually showed undercover footage of a guy neutering a bunny on a table (not an operating table) in unclean conditions, without enough anesthesia so the bunny woke up during the surgery. then you see him on camera reach over and grab a clorox wipe out of a pop-up canister (the kind you use to clean your bathroom), and use that to clean the wound when he's finished. i'm still sick to my stomach thinking of it... all i can see in my head is those little bunny feet kicking and i want to cry. i know i've said this before, but people who are cruel to animals like this should be put in a cell and left for dead. i get so, so angry when i hear about people who have no thought for an animal's pain and suffering. yes, i'm not a vegetarian, and that's something i grapple with a lot. but for god's sake, doing surgery on a table with no anesthesia??? i want to find that guy and punch him in the face.
and let's talk about the today show showing that footage. what the hell????
sorry to end on such a downer note, guys. have a good weekend, and smooch your 4-legged kidlet if you have one.

Date: 2008-01-25 12:23 pm (UTC)By the way, I've always said, if I won the Lottery, I think I would employ a barber full-time ... just so he could freshen up my haircut every few days. Given the rate at which my hair grows, that would be ideal.

As far as the animals go... rather than put them in a cell [at first, that comes later], they should be made to endure the same "procedures" they put the furry-ones through, especially the part where the anesthetic is insufficient for the task-at-hand. Grrr...
