see, when i click on that button, i just get a page of all of the posts i've made so far. nothing that tells me i can add it to a friend's list in whatever blog site i belong to.
Actually, the link that was posted above thisisntadiet will work if your LJ friends just click on that and add it to their friends list. Note that it will only work for LJ - other feed readers won't have the slightest idea what to do with that button.
The RDF file will work for folks who use Google Reader, NetVibes, etc, etc. The process for adding it will differ from product to product, but if they go into whatever form their tool uses for adding a new feed, and post this into it - http://thisisntadiet.typepad.com/this_isnt_a_diet/index.rdf - that will work.
1. dump typepad and go with wordpress. It has many more plugins, themes and custom options.
2. sign up with feedburner.com and have all your rss feeds go through them as you can better track who reads what posts and if they take action on a post.
You will note that when you use feedburner for your rss feed as I do on my Salem blog, http://www.thesaleminsider.com/ you will be directed to a page that allows you to choose a reader of your choice and it makes the process simple.
Your welcome. Since Liz started her blog http://www.rippin-kitten.com last year, I've been working on learning more and more about blog software, plugins and how to interpret your meta data (you are using google analytics right? http://www.google.com/analytics/
If you look at the top bloggers, Darren Rowse, John Chow, Leo Laporte they all use wordpress. There is a huge community of developers and a thriving support system for n00bs.
You're all set up for LJ already. I read you as thisisntadiet. Anyone who wants to do can just add thisisntadiet to their LJ friendslist. So tell them that.
As for people who use other services to read things, they know what RSS feeds are, and there is already an RSS feed link on your page. So you don't have a problem there.
You don't need to go rushing off and set up completely different blogging software, and the issues would be the same if you did. (:
