things i love about the W hotel in chicago:

* there is a sequined wall behind the registration desk

* they play techno/lounge in the elevators, and throughout the lobby

* also, in the elevators, they change the carpet 3x/day... when the doors open, the floor says either "good morning", "good afternoon", or "good evening"

* in the gym, the sweat towels are kept in a glass-doored mini-fridge, so that the towel cools you off as you blot

* any request of the staff is answered with: "consider it done!"

* when you order a wake-up call, you are greeted in the morning with: "i'm sorry to interrupt your dreams, jennifer... it's time for you to wake up... it's very cold today, be sure to bundle up."

* there is a dessert on the room service menu called "Fantasy": whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate sauce, and a disposable camera

* there is a telescope by the elevators on my floor, so you can check out the stars (or the lake) while you wait for your elevator

* there is a silver kaleidescope on my desk, in a silver holder engraved with the word WISH

* in the meeting rooms, they put little puzzles on the tables to keep your hands busy, and place a couple of large glass egg timers there as well in case you need to keep time during discussions

* there is a Bliss spa in the hotel, and all of the bathroom toiletries in your room are from the Bliss line

* they have an $80 hamburger: kobe beef, lobster, and truffles on brioche (no, i haven't ordered it... yet)

* it's in the same city as my chicago peeps, so i could see some of them last night!


there are a million more little things here that i love, but i can't even think of them all... all i know is, this place is funky and gorgeous and the service is AMAZING, and i'm SO glad my company got a deal on the rooms so we could stay here! if i had the money, i'd buy a condo in one of their buildings, no hesitation. in the meantime, i'll just have to save up my money so i can stay at one again on my next vacation...

Oh, speaking of sequins, I went to a craft/home store today and saw some sparkly sequin-like frames in the custom framing department. Though they wouldn't go in my house (nor would they fly with hubby), I think you'd love them.

No. Alas it was at an independently owned store. The only place around here I can find a certain type of fabric I love. I was in awe of their framing department. So many choices!
