last night i had to blow off my dance class. i'd been in the classroom all day, and that combined with the goings-on of the previous 3 days meant i was totally exhausted. good thing i stayed home, i was asleep on the couch by 9pm. ugh.

so, my business trip. skytop. all i can say is, i was living in "The Shining" for 3 days. when i first arrived, i was thinking more of "Dirty Dancing" (jack: "don't get knocked up by one of the dance instructors") -- i could definitely see it in its heyday in the 60s maybe, with loads of wealthy families spending weeks there playing croquet on the lawn and going hiking... the place even had its own theme song (i had the "kellerman's" song from DD going though my head for days), and a jacket is still required for men at dinner. but after a few hours of being there, i started to get kind of creeped out. the place is old... and not in a charming way, more of a sad outdated way. the views are gorgeous, the outside of the lodge is gorgeous... but inside it's very dark and depressing. there was just an unsettling feeling throughout the hotel, that lifted when you walked outside... all the other people at the meeting commented on it as well. i seriously half expected to see two little ghost girls waiting for me in the hallway every night.

oh -- and gas in the poconos? $3.25/gal. owie.

got home on wednesday to discover that jack is still the best boyfriend on the planet -- while i was gone, since i still had a dumpster in my driveway from the roof work last weekend, he'd come over one night with an axe and chopped down the holly tree next to my driveway. if my big old pine tree (that i had removed this summer) was an asshole, this holly tree was the asshole's obnoxious little brother -- of all the places to plant a useless holly tree, some genius had decided that it was best in the corner between the driveway and the front walkway to the house... so that every time i got out of the car, i got dinged in the face by prickly leaves. and again as i walked up to my front door. so the awesome love of my life got rid of it for me as a surprise. yay!

that night, jack and i went to see the reverend horton heat play at the TLA. i was so psyched for jack to go, it was his first rev show and we'd been planning it for months. the show was... eh. i love seeing the rev, his music is awesome and it was a blast to watch the massive mosh pit from the balcony... but he and jimbo both looked like they were phoning it in that night. almost no interaction with the crowd, very little energy, same 3 crowd-pleasing "bits" they've been doing for years done half-heartedly... they looked burnt out. bummer.
