financial woes
Oct. 22nd, 2007 02:14 pmi'm working from home today... cranking out a project i've been trying to get to for the last week. i was really on a roll this morning, until... the roofer called.
i had someone come out over the weekend to take a look at the leak in my roof... my handyman has been trying for over a year to patch it up, and my kitchen ceiling still gets drippy every time it rains... so i called this roofing specialist to see what he thinks.
what does he think? that it'll cost me $1000 to fix the problem. not what i wanted to hear in the middle of my workday.
yes, i'm getting a second opinion. but the guy is very reputable, and the problem is a big-ish one, so i'm guessing he's right.
the best part? i don't have $1000. turns out i'm probably not refinancing my mortgage, which is where i could have gotten the cash for the roof, because of all sorts of confusing stuff regarding the ratio of equity to value or something like that... all i know is, i'd have to show up at closing with almost $2000, all because my house didn't appraise for $3000 more than we thought. not worth it. go figure.
i need to figure out what ELSE i can cut back on, to save up for these repairs. *sigh*. i'm too old to sell my eggs... blood? i could sell blood... or hoops, know anyone who wants to buy a hula hoop?

(Sorry to hear about the financial headaches. I will be certain to try to do a little more word of mouth for the hoops!)
