i'm warning you away from geico... because i love you.

last week, i finally succumbed to those geico commercials where they tell you to check out their website to see if they can save you $$$ on your car insurance. i filled out the info, and got a quote back that was about $20/month more than i pay to state farm. "oh well", i shrugged, and obviously decided to stay with state farm.

this morning, i got an e-mail from geico... explaining that the rate they quoted was not their lowest, and that a lot of factors go into how they determined my rate. but here's the best part: because they didn't offer me their lowest rate, THEY REPORTED IT AS AN ADVERSE ACTION to the credit reporting agencies.

so now i have a ding on my credit report, all because they said i should check them out to save a few bucks.

assholes.

(and yes, i'm posting this from vacation. i'm hoping by posting this, i can get rid of some of my negative energy and go back to having fun.)

that's completely fucked! if i were you, i'd contact the credit bureaus to contest the ding. i might also write a nasty letter back to geico, letting them know that if they actually report the ding, you're going to badmouth them all over tarnation, and also to the better business bureau and/or to the newspaper.

Why on earth would they report it as an "adverse action" to the credit bureau? What do they [the credit bureau] have to do with asking for an insurance quote?? *scratching head*

And yeah, you should alert somebody... LOUDLY... about this. You didn't do anything wrong, so why should you be penalized for it?
