WHEE! what a great weekend so far!
Sep. 2nd, 2007 07:47 amthis weekend has been so. much. fun. and i'm psyched that there are still 2 days left!!!
friday night was
jeremym's birthday bash at North Bowl, a newish swank bowling alley/lounge in the city. jack came over a bit early to change clothes (i had an excuse to wear my leopard-trimmed bowling shirt, yay) before we headed out. as i went to set the house alarm, i asked him our standard question: "who's driving?"* his reply: "i dunno, i'm not sure what his name is." ha ha, funny. except as i walked out my door, i realized there was a Town Car in my driveway, and a driver ready to take us around all night. SWEET! besides being an awesome surprise, it was a super-smart move -- we were heading into the city during rush hour at the start of a holiday weekend. bleh. so it was nice to sit in the back, relaxed, as someone else dealt with traffic. ditto for the way back home after drinking all night!
jerm's par-tay was a blast. my bowling sucked, but not TOO bad... the place was really cool... and i got to see mark before he jetted off to japan for the next few years. AND, there were mini corn dogs! and PBR! and orangle glitter tiles in the bathroom! and a kick-ass DJ! yay!
yesterday i got my hoopnotica part 2 DVD in the mail. i swear, i'm going to give rayna (president of hoopnotica) a big fat kiss when i see her next month for my private lesson. her DVDs are SO helpful -- within 10 minutes, i was able to fine-tune several moves (chest and shoulder hooping, and angles) that i just didn't quite *get* from using the hoopgirl DVD. the reviews i've read were right: hoopgirl is a fun DVD to watch christabel perform in teeny outfits, but the hoopnotica ones are much more helpful.
but at dinner, i more than made up for the few calories i burned hooping... jack and i went to a new restaurant in my neighborhood, the blue sky cafe, and it was AMAZING. by far, the best "suburban" restaurant we've been to since we've started dating. the menu is caribbean, and every single thing we ate was eye-popping-ly good. i started with a gazpacho tasting trio (spicy tomato, almond, and watermelon), and then had a coconut-crusted tilapia and shrimp that were to die for. for dessert, we split a slice of tres leches cake that we couldn't stop eating even though we were stuffed.
we rolled out of there and headed to blockbuster, where we rented: air guitar nation!!! the documentary about the international air guitar championships! what a FUN freakin' movie! i've already signed up for the mailing list for the US regionals... no, not to compete, but because i HAVE to go see the NY semi-finals next summer!
rest of the weekend: BBQ at jack's mom's today, my place tomorrow. good grill food, beautiful weather... so psyched.
*we have very different driving "styles", so we take turns driving places so as to not have one of us pissed off more than the other. hee.
