baby steps
Jul. 27th, 2007 11:34 amsloooowly but surely, Tailspin Hoops is coming together. i got the final approval for my website, now i just have to design it... it looks pretty involved, but in a creative way, which means i'll probably have a blast and drive myself crazy all at once. :)
i had a great idea for a logo, only to find that another hoop maker has one similar to what i created. dammit. so back to the drawing board.
most importantly, i'm on way to having "product"! i'm waiting for my big shipment of tape, but in the meantime i started working with other supplies i bought for experimentation. jack and i stopped in a fabric store a few days ago, so i could get a feel for whether i'd want to use fabrics in some of my hoops... it's certainly expensive, which i'm sure is a big reason other people don't use it... plus it's very time consuming with all the measuring and cutting and all. but heck, being the glutton for punishment that i am, i busted out a wool plaid that i'm in love with and used that for my first hoop. for pain-in-the-ass materials, and how painstaking it was to do, i'm thrilled with the results:

the fabric reminded me of all the punk shops i used to visit on south street when i was in college... all the clothes on their racks were red plaid and black vinyl. so this hoop is my tribute to south street in the 80s. :) i have enough fabric for 2 or 3 more hoops, i may need to buy more!
(one thing i DO need to buy is a better camera... i love how the darn thing focused on the lower part of the hoop, instead of what was closer to the lens. le sigh.)
