so far, so good with the gardening around the deck. i have a horrible brown thumb, i kill plants just by looking at them... but so far, the flowers i planted last weekend are still alive. i went back to the greenhouse this morning to buy some more (i'd underestimated last week and had some bare spots), and finished up the boxes on the deck. they look so much better!

BEFORE:

the geraniums in the big box were totally trashed, and one of my maple trees had sent some helicoptery seed things down that were taking root nicely in their place. plus the previous owners had decided it would be a really good idea to plant evergreen trees in the teeny side boxes. o-kay.

AFTER:

a much neater-looking, healthy-flowered box full of vinca. YAY!

oh, and in a side box i put these petunias... i'd never seen flowers like these before, they look like something dr. seuss would create! i just had to have some. :)

and finally: a front shot of the house. now that spring is here, i am SOOOO glad i painted my front door that peacock blue... my bushes are starting to flower pink and white, and it looks so fun and colorful! the photo doesn't do it justice.

I've had really good luck with petunias. They fill out really nice by mid June. I hope you do too! Looks great.

I may need some moral support when I finally plant my perennial garden (second attempt)! It is weeded, just need to fix the rock wall, add some weed killer (anti-germination stuff) and design the garden. (And then of course go find and buy the plants and plant them.) This gardening stuff kinda scares me, but hopefully it will get easier with more experience.
