and with it, lots of yardwork. sweeping, picking up downed tree branches, raking dead leaves from over the winter... at least it gets me out in the beautiful weather.

i've lived in this house almost a year now, and finally get to discover what my trees and flowers look like as they bloom. it's fun, almost every day i feel like mother nature is giving me a gift as i discover another plant exploding with color. my favorite is the weeping cherry tree at the side of my house... it bloomed a couple of days before J and i left for the cruise, and thank god i took a picture then, because all the blossoms had already dropped by the time we got back. only a 1-week window every year for this gorgeous tree, what a shame!

in NOT-so-happy house news, my insurance won't cover the cost to fix my awful bathroom. grrrr. so i'm now saving up $3000 for a french drain to get rid of the water problem... then i'll save up another $1000 to have the two trees torn down (the ones growing up through my floor)... then another $2-3000 to re-drywall, tile, and paint the bathroom to make it useable again. *heavy sigh*

if only it were legal for me to publish the names of the previous owners somewhere and tell the world what assholes they are for covering this up. i guess i'll just have to send negative vibes their way. grrrrrrr.

Not to compare

But if I told you the grand dollar amount it took to fix my "leaking office" problem by putting on a whole new facade on my house... you'd cry. Well, I'm crying anyway.

I'm pretty sure that, if the previous owner knew about it and concealed the defect, you can still go after them for damages. Worth checking into.

Yeah that!

We just signed our house papers and a specific line was pointed out to us: if the previous owners knowingly left something out/hid some information on the house that comes up later, we can go after them. Even though our house inspection went fine and the owners/realtor disclosed some sewage piping from the nursing home behind our house to the town sewage line right in front of our house (the pipes run through our property along the side of the house), if anything new comes up, we can and will go after them. Our realtor is really good at protecting us. a. I wonder if your purchase and sales paperwork shows this and b. if you can find the company that may have consulted on this 'project' that the owners then decided to cover-up on their own. You've only been in the house less than a year. That should count, since it wasn't something that *you* could have done to make it happen (plant a new tree, weekend project of putting in second bath, etc.).

This sucks, good luck!

there are some "technicalities" that are getting in my way. i need to find a better lawyer, to see if there's any way around them. *sigh*.

the names of the owners are public record knowledge. . .why do you say that it's illegal to reveal them? or is it just illegal to say they're assholes?

the tree is gorgeous!

I believe in the power of French drains. The house I grew up in flooded badly 3-4 times in the first few years I lived there. My parents put in a French drain, and the house has been dry for, what, 20-plus years now?
