J and i are already thinking about our next trip... we had so much fun getting away on the cruise, now all we want to talk about is when we can go away again. last night when we were grilling at his place, he told me excitedly that he'd found an alaska cruise (he's really into this alaska cruise idea) in july for $2000. him: "start saving now! that's only $1000 each!" me: "honey, that's the cost per person, not per cabin." him: "dammit!"

looks like the next big-ish trip will be our long weekend in CA in the fall. we're going out to visit "our" meerkat (from when he adopted one for me for valentine's day), and padding a few days on to do other things while we're out there. the best part is that we may be able to time it so we can see a Shag exhibit while we're there, AND i might sign up for some private hooping lessons too! w00t!

i'm in such vacation mode still, i decided yesterday to turn an upcoming business trip into a mini-vacation. i always say that i should stay an extra day or so when i travel for work, but by the end of the trip i just want to go home... this time, since i'm going to miami, i decided to fly in the weekend before to stay in south beach. i found a cute little cheapie art deco hotel with a pool and beach access... so i'm thinking a couple of days of lounging and reading, mixed in with some ocean drive window-shopping and maybe a night at a salsa club, will be just what the doctor ordered. yay!

I know how you feel. I'm kinda at the other end of the spectrum. Feels like it's been (roughly) 890723483483400982345042307 years since [livejournal.com profile] xtingu and I got a chance to get away. I just keep telling myself - just a few more days and then you're leaving the country together!

Have to say that feels damn good every time I say it. ;)

We're going to the Netherlands. She's going to be performing there with the Industrial Jazz Group (http://www.uglyrug.com) (who'll be sharing a stage with folks like Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo!

Then, at the end of the week, I fly home and she's going to stay on for a little while to meet the Powers that Be at the new Mothership. (Quint's main offices are in the Netherlands.)

Honestly, I don't recall. I'll check their myspace page when I get home (Their website worked for me, but I didn't find the venue.) I would check here at work, but I already feel like I'm pushing the limits of what I should/shouldn't be checking out at work, so I think that I'll leave myspace alone.

When I know - you'll know. ;)

Dude dude dude dude dude!

Stay at the Catalina Hotel in South Beach! It rocks so hard, and it's right there on the main drag. It's like Pod, but a hotel.

Make sure you get decked out in some swanky sexy garb and get a drink or 7 at The Delano. Make sure you walk all the way the building through to the back yard bar. It's just beautiful.

If you're not familiar with the hotels in South Beach, lemme know the name of the place you're staying. My company is based in South Beach (the IT consulting hotbed, dontcha know...wtf), and there are (sadly) lots of crappy run-down places that tout themselves as art deco. (No, that just means the stains are from the late 1920s.)

that's so funny, i was thiiiis close to booking a room at the catalina... but i really wanted a place with a beach and/or pool. the place i found got good traveler reviews, and has both a pool and a stretch of beach (with a "hammock garden" to boot, woo-hoo!).

i've heard the delano is cool, i will definitely have a mid-afternoon mojito there. or 7.
