back from san diego.
Feb. 9th, 2007 08:56 ami have to say... being in a 60-degree climate for 2 days, when it's 2 degrees in philly, certainly didn't suck. what did suck was the 6-hour flight each way, 'cause i am terrified of flying. but it got me some fresh air and sunshine for a few hours when i wasn't working, so i won't complain too much. some highlights from the short trip:
* sliding along I-95 at 5:30am in the snow to get to the airport, only to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours to get the plane de-iced... and then not having food for 8 hours, because the flight was 6 hours long and they sold out of every crappy $5 meal on the plane before they got to me. not a good time to have low blood sugar.
* having a few hours after i landed to walk around balboa park with my boss and a co-worker... we wanted to go to the zoo, but we got there an hour before closing and they wanted to charge us the full $23 admission. i'm sorry, i love animals, but if i'm paying $23 for only an hour, they'd better give me a complimentary panda cub to take home with me.
* i found the woman i want to be when i'm in my 80s. at the airport for the flight back to PA, there was a sweet older woman in a wheelchair being helped by an airport valet... she was dressed all in pink, with her hair pinned up and full of hot-pink silk flowers... and she was wearing a pink feather boa. oh my god, so freaking adorable. she was grinning like crazy and so sweet and just totally having a blast, and she cracked up when they had to put her boa through the x-ray scanner at security. i just loved her.
* finding out about anna nicole smith dying during my stopover in phoenix... i think it's really sad, i always found her to be such a tragic character... but it was a bit amusing how i found out. our plane landed in phoenix and we had a 1-hour layover, and everyone got off to stretch their legs. i stayed on so i could stretch out and nap for a bit. just before they re-boarded everyone, i logged onto LJ and saw a post about anna nicole. my boss got back on the plane and was like, "you missed all the buzz..." i said, "anna nicole smith died?" and she was like, "how can you be that tuned in to entertainment news, that YOU ARE SITTING ALONE ON A PLANE, SHE DIED WHILE WE WERE IN THE AIR, and you STILL find out about it first???" hee.
* some doofus at the front of my plane home decided to use the bathroom AS WE WERE LANDING. like, everyone's strapped in, liberty place is at eye level, and he gets up to use the loo. a flight attendant got on the intercom and shouted at him to quickly sit down, and he went in anyway... and tried to step out again juuuust as the wheels were about to touch down. the other passengers had to yell at him to get back in there and brace himself. needless to say, he got an earful from the crew. and no, he wasn't sick or anything... according to one of the crew, he was "just an idiot".
