hey, if you're gonna go off a diet...
Jan. 9th, 2007 07:05 am...you might as well do it hardcore. (yes, and then get right back on.) last night some co-workers and i went out to dinner at the continental midtown, and gave their kitchen a serious workout. we ordered one of almost half the menu (for non-philly peeps, the restaurant is "global tapas" style)... my review for anyone who's never been:
asian french fries - this was a volleyball-sized mound of the best fries i have ever eaten. skiinny, skeeeeeeny shoestring fries done perfectly crisp and drizzled with hot chinese mustard. i could have eaten the whole pile.
crab dumplings - basically crab shumai, good but nothing to write home about.
french onion soup dumplings - really creative dish. they basically took wonton wrappers, filled them with the wine-y onion-y mixture (no broth), and topped them with a hunk of cheese and broiled 'em. yum, bite sized soup!
crab pad thai - there was tofu in it, so i had one bite and had to push it away. meh.
chicken lettuce wraps - good, but i probably wouldn't order them again (there are much more creative things on the menu).
chicken caesar salad - YUM. giant mound of perfectly-dressinged greens with juicy grilled chicken on top. i devoured a good portion of this.
grilled salmon - melt-in-your mouth. more of a meal than tapas, as it was a whole grilled filet with roasted potatoes as an accompaniment. i'm not huge salmon fan, and even i ate a big piece.
spicy tuna and avocado sushi - good, but i wouldn't go there just to have sushi. i can have that anywhere, so i probably wouldn't order it again.
wasabi mashed potatoes - good, but nothing mind-blowing. we were supposed to get the lobster mashed potatoes as well (AND lobster mac & cheese), but we were so full we had to cancel them, so i have no comparison to their other potato-y offerings.
serving sizes were bigger than i'd remembered... 3 dishes would stuff 2 people. so definitely a good value. drinks, on the other hand, are expensive. most average $9, but their huge martini menu is fun if you want to splurge.
desserts: tiny but tasty. you'd need 3 or 4 to equal a regular restaurant's dessert size.
oh, and could someone steal their awesome champagne-bubble chandelier and put it in my house? kthxbye.
