wow. it's almost the end of 2006.
Dec. 29th, 2006 12:08 pmwhen i think of everything that i've done (and that's happened to me) over the last 12 months, my mind absolutely boggles.
work-wise, i switched jobs twice... had 4 bosses... helped launch 3 major products for my company... traveled all over the country... won a number of awards... and gained 10 pounds. (i put that under the "work" category because the weight comes from an abundance of free food at the office, and no exercise due to long hours.)
personally, i had a brief relationship in the spring... saw 3 friends move to europe... went to my first NASCAR weekend... became an internationally-ranked pinball player... discovered salsa dancing AND pole dancing... became addicted to roller derby... discovered sex dwarf... bought my first house... lost my uncle, a good friend, and 2 other people in my life... met and fell for the boy... traveled to paris and the netherlands... and made some of the best friends i've ever had in my life.
whoa. all in one year. of all of that, the most significant for me was losing people i care about... it's shown me more than ever how important it is to live your life to the fullest. AND, to tell people that you care about them, instead of waiting to say something nice at their funeral. people need to hear how special they are, dammit. so i'm starting a very simple meme: say nice things to people on your friend's list.
jeremym - it's amazing to think that a year ago, i didn't know you. you have been a wonderful friend to me, an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. and thank you for introducing me to a whole slew of people whom i have grown to love very much. i want a million good things for you in 2007, and can't wait to hang with you in the coming year.
the_cook - i miss you! but i am so happy for you and the fantastic life you're building over in utrecht with nic. i always look forward to your posts (even though they're infrequent, dammit), because they are so filled with love and happiness. you deserve every moment of it. you're a wonderful host, a damn good cook, and can deliver a zinger unlike anyone i know.
boutell - you're my partner in crime, my salsa buddy and fellow karaoke whore and cheesesteak enabler. you cram more living into 24 hours than most people do in a year, and it's absolutely awe-inspiring. you kick all kinds of ass, and i love you to pieces. i can't wait to see what kinds of trouble we get into in the next 12 months.
katehaney and
occhi_cinesi - i love that, through LJ, i've been able to stay in touch with both of you and grow to love you even more. your girly weekend visit for "baby loves disco" was one of the highlights of my year. thank you for your smart, honest replies to my posts... you've kept me in line (or encouraged me to be out of line!) many many times.
weezerthe1 - you were the first "stranger" to friend me on here, and i've loved reading about your wonderful life over the years. i hope someday we get to actually meet.
swingdoc - don't leeeeave meeeee! i can't believe you're moving later this year, and we won't be able to do spa-y or drink-y stuff as much anymore. i'm looking forward to keeping up with your (and colin's exploits) via LJ, and hope that we can cram in some more visits before you go. thank you for picking up the phone and calling me several times this year when i was going through my various hell phases... just hearing your voice and words of sympathy and encouragement meant more than you can ever know. you're an amazing person and a doctor i'd completely trust with my own life.
pjstinson - can you believe that, of all the people currently in my life, you've known me the longest? i'm glad we're back in touch, and look forward to you posting more so i can catch up on the goings-on of your beautiful family.
dhpdesign - O HAI! thank you for being a wonderful friend and everything else. there's no-one in the world i'd rather be with while ducking the bodily fluids of a stranger. your knowledge of music is awe-inspiring, and you look damn fine dancing in a towel. looking forward to much more dancin' and concert-goin'.
naughtyboy - hell, you got me on LJ in the first place. i have to thank you for that, so SO much. and i'm incredibly psyched that you're now living in wedded bliss!
swankyfunk - girl, seriously, i am coming to NY this year and meeting you in person. you are so damn funny and awesomely fangirly and fun... if the rev or the daddies come to NY, i'll road-trip up there in a heartbeat to hang.
xtingu,
shellefly, and
mrl24 - thank for accepting me into the tribe. you are such loving, wonderful people and a blast to be around. the postitive energy that you radiate is absolutely addictive. and
xtingu and
mrl24, i absolutely adore how in love you are. it really warms my heart. i hope that one day i can have even a fraction of the love you show for one another. (and you make the best hall and oates EVER.)
southstman - words aren't enough to thank you for the amazing energy you create every month at sex dwarf. you are such a beautiful spirit, and i'm really looking forward to getting to know you more in the coming year.
arguchik,
kemidra,
mghicks,
ms_violet, and
notshakespeare - it was great to meet all of you this year! here's to a 2007 filled with many more of our posts about pinball, karaoke, and general hell-raisin'. and you know,
mghicks, you ARE my neighbor now... if i don't see you more this year, i will hunt you down.
pennycuts - i'd have to say you and i have the craziest circumstances for being on each others' friends lists, but i'm glad for it just the same. i love reading the honesty of your posts, all the good and the bad out there equally. you're an inspiration for me with your workout regimen, and i am so happy that you've found such a wonderful guy to love.
thetech - just think, 12 months ago we spoke on the phone for the first time to say happy new year! thanks for all of the text messages over the last year when i needed cheering up. you're a total sweetheart, and i wish you much love and success this year.

swifty0682,
djlarkin,
dj_zen and
nuprinz - you guys were all a major part of what were some of the happiest and most thrilling years of my life. even though i'm not jetting all over to do dance weekends anymore, i'm glad we can keep in touch on here. i love you all so much, and hope to dance with you again at some point!
steven - i so love your writing... your post a few months ago where you talked about the "comic sans" font being the preferred choice for secretaries trying to be clever was one of the funniest things i read all year. i know you had a few challenges of your own this year, and you handled them with grace and humor. you're definitely one of the LJ folks i'd like to meet someday in the "real world". much love to you and paul in the coming year.

Congratulations on finding a beau for yourself and Happy New Year!
