we'll get to the reasons for the current physical state in a moment... first, let's recap the weekend.
so, just as i'd suspected, my pissy mood from friday is now gone. but friday i was in the full throes of it, and just wanted to be by myself. i bailed on happy hour with some work folks, and had a blind date tentatively scheduled for later on that i was desperately figuring out how to bail on as well. i just wasn't in the mood to try to turn on the charm for a stranger.
so... i decided that i was going to treat myself to sushi at my favorite place. i just wanted to sit in a booth and read and have awesome food served by guys who know what i order every time. on the drive there, i almost turned around and went home... did i really want to go out? maybe i should just stay in and make some tuna and read at home. but sushi won out, and i arived at the restaurant famished. now this was one of those times in life where you almost feel like you were being pushed into a situation by an invisible hand... because as i walked with the hostess to my booth, who did i see seated at the table next to me but JK, a girl i used to work with who moved out of the area 12 years ago and just happened to be in town for the weekend. she helped me get one of my first jobs right out of school, i was at her wedding in 1994. and there she was, sitting in a restaurant that i almost didn't go to that night for multiple reasons. too funny!
so, after she and her family left the restaurant, i thought about the blind date i wanted to bag out of and decided i was going to go. i mean, did i have the right to sabotage a guy's friday night just because i was in a mood? no. so i called him on my way home, and we agreed to meet up for a drink. i was dreading it, but what the hell. well, it turned out to be a really pleasant evening, we got along well and he'd like to see me again. aw. i was absolutely amazed that my evening had gone from "verge of tears, i want to lock myself in my house" at 5pm to "i ran into an old friend and had a nice blind date" by midnight. too, too funny.
HAPPY BIRFDAY,
boutell!!!!! you and your karaoke voodoo vibe are the reason i am so dehydrated and exhausted this morning. so, SO much fun last night, good lord. we were there before karaoke started, and we closed the place, and everything in between was teh awesome. let's take a photographic expedition through the evening, shall we?
the birthday boy starting us out for the evening. thank god, the place at this point had a decent-sized crowd... right before that, as
sarcasmoscorner put it, "animal house showed up in the room". some college party upstairs had just let out, and several dozen drunk and rowdy 21-year-olds crammed into the place to scream out a couple of songs, and we thought it was going to be a looooong night. thankfully, they left after one song and we could enjoy ourselves again.

awwwwwww! cuteness!

boutell's awesome 100% homemade birthday cake with glenfiddich frosting. *drool* one of the best pieces of cake i've ever had... totally worth breaking my eating plan for a night!!!

this is where the evening took a wacky turn. (okay, not really, the evening devolved into all sorts of wrongness very early on, but i have no photographic proof if it.) this is
jeremym absolutely ROCKING THE HOUSE DOWN with his rendition of "sweet transvestite".

obviously B quite enjoyed his performance.

i decided to try "black horse and the cherry tree" (i love love LOVE bob the DJ for getting this song while it's starting to be played on the radio), and was pleasantly surprised that a number of people in the room knew it. yay! little did i know that i get blurry when i sing...

la la laaaaaa!

bein' dancy

drjohn belting one out

B rockin' out during the musical break while she's singing "hey jealousy"

dhpdesign even stopped by after his shift on the air

(thank god, because there was a very eager and enthusiastic karaoke guy there who was hitting on either me and/or
jeremym, we couldn't figure out which... but when it got to the point that he kept grabbing my hand and telling me i was "so pretty", i turned to
dhpdesign and hissed, "dude, you are my boyfriend for the rest of the evening." thanks for having my back babe!!!! *mwah*)
and
jeremym and
xtingu closed the evening with a kick-ass rendition of "suddenly seymour".

*happy sigh*. a kick-ass celebration for a kick-ass guy. happy birthday hon!!!

Date: 2006-10-01 03:25 pm (UTC)That was wonderful. Y'all are far too brilliant.
I didn't exactly have to be carried home, but I would have left my umbrella, my coat and my head in the bar if it wasn't for Mark.
Afterwards Mark and Bobbi and I went back to my place and we showed her the glory that is googling for guitar tab on the Intarwebs. There was singage until 3:30 in the morning. (; I am very tired indeed and expect to help Tedford move today. Oow. But first I'm bringing Nancy a slice O' the scotch.
