swingchickie: (bathroom scale)

i've gained and lost the same pound for several days in a row now. 6 pounds gone, and i'm stalled. i'm now at the end of 2 weeks, and i'd hoped to be down 8-10. perhaps it's because i haven't done any exercise since friday night... i'm going to go to the gym tomorrow for the 1st time (yay!) and see if the scale starts moving again.

today was hard again... taco bar at lunch (i just ate the meat, cheese and lettuce... no corn chips or taco shells), deep-fried mozzarella sticks and a big vat of hershey kisses at snack time (i ate nuts at my desk). i'm a little pissed that i'm being so good and the weight isn't continually dropping off, but i have faith that it'll come off slowly but surely.

a male co-worker'c comment as i walked by today: "hey Rice, you're getting skinny too fast!" YEAH, losing 6 pounds (i need to lose around 60) isn't exactly "skinny". but i enjoyed the comment. :)

Girl, you are on a mission. :P

6 lbs in 2 weeks is more than enough... most nutritionists don't advise losing more than 2 lbs a week if you want to keep it off.

And most also suggest not weighing yourself more than once a week. Seriously; your weight will fluctuate daily based on nothing more than hormonal levels and such. Your menstrual cycle alone will cause you to retain different amounts of water each day. If you lose a lb one day and gain it back the next, it's fine. It's normal. As long as the overall trend is downward, you're doing it right. I think the hardest part about dieting is that we expect to see faster results than what's healthy. You feel like for all the effort you put in each week, you should see more than 2 lbs. But your body really isn't built like that. If you lose much more than that, you're apt to gain it all back.

Just stick to a plan you can live with. :) Long term health! It'll lead to a better body as a SIDE effect, not a goal.

/end unsolicited advice

i totally agree with you on the long-term thing. that's why i'm treating this as an annoyance instead of failure. but to go from losing 1/2 pound a day to nothing... blecch.

Some un-inspirational words: I went through the same thing. You might recall I did South Beach and got to a point where I didn't lose ONE POUND. Lucky for me I was ok with the weight I reached for the time being. Then I didn't eat all that great, but I was exercising and I stayed around the same weight. Now I am neither eating well nor exercising as I am busy running the kids around all week. Pounds are creeping back on slowly.

So if I can say ANYTHING positive, just keep on doing what your doing. I believe you will lose more even if it takes a while. I am so impressed with your determination!

Freaking out over day-to-day or even intra-day changes is stressful and unhelpful, but it's also inevitable. I feel ya on that one.

you're doing fantastic

Over the long term, all of your hard work and sacrifice will pay off. The day-to-day rollercoaster is a tough ride though.
