i'm actually thinking about going out tonight for a little bit. i've been stuck inside doing work since early this morning, and i'm going stir crazy. might be able to make it down to the city in time for the salsa lesson at rock lobster, if i can finish up a few things.

lord knows i could use the lesson... friday night after peter tork, i went to brasil's and SUCKED. it started out fine, i took the beginner lesson and both the instructor and one of the good dancers there were like, "ooh! you know how to dance!" i was feeling pretty proud of myself, until good-dancer-guy asked me to dance after the lesson... we did 2 songs in a row, both really fast songs, and he was leading me in all sorts of crazy spins and turns and i was hanging on for dear life. i know i was being a heavy follow, but with the speed and the crazy moves it was hard to compensate and lighten it up a bit. i almost wanted to apologize when we were through. so, note to self: take more lessons, and nap before salsa nights so that i'm not dancing while i'm tired and sluggish.

last night i stayed local. i was thiiis close to staying in and watching tv, instead i hit one of the local townie bars to check out their saturday karaoke night. it was definitely interesting. it was exactly what a townie bar should be -- a mix of bikers, women with massively-sprayed hair a'la a whitesnake video, college dudes, and a few old men clustered at one end of the bar. the one open barstool was with the old men, so i sat down with them and immediately got flirted up by "butch", a gentleman in his 70s who thought i was 24 (god bless him) and, upon hearing my real age, told me, "if i were 30 years younger, i'd be hitting on you like crazy" (which he told me at least 10 times over the course of the evening). it was very sweet. also interested was J, a guy a little closer to my age, who was dressed in chef's whites and wanted to make sure i knew that he "cleaned up real nice" when not in work clothes. he kept coming over to me and asking me what he should sing, by actually singing the song to me to see if i liked it. uh. then after he'd get up and sing one, he'd come over and ask me how he did. it was dorky, but sweet. and heck, even though i wasn't interested, 2 men (regardless of age or anything else) flirting with me in one night is unheard of for me, so i got kind of a kick out of it. i must have been throwing out some major mojo without even knowing it! hee.

one thing that cannot come soon enough: the philly smoking ban. good lord, the bar i was at last night should be re-named "Marlboro McSmokerton's". i finally had to leave around 1am, because i could barely see from all the smoke in there. and now my clothes reek like crazy. bleh.

i'd also like to know where the hell everyone was this weekend. both brasil's and "mcsmokerton's" were dead. brasil's had *maybe* 20 people there after the lesson, and when i left there were only 2 or 3 couples out there for each song (normally you have to fight your way out onto the teeny dance floor)... and the karaoke night last night, from what i've heard, is usually packed with regulars... only 2 of them showed up last night, and again, there were maybe 20 people there. very, very odd.

wonder what rock lobster will be like tonight. another empty club? hrm. worth going into center city for? hrm.

Dedness on a Friday at Brasil's is not that unusual. Wednesday is OMG 800 skilled dancers night at Brasil's.

Your super-amazing-dancer partner at Brasil's was not paying attention to what his partner was comfortable following. Not so super-amazing!

Rock Lobster was pleasant but underpopulated. And I was too tired to focus after the first few go-rounds.

Eventually it dawned on me that, having been to a lesson and a tiny "social dance" this afternoon in Center City, I might just possibly be too goddam tired eh?

I met somebody quite nice at said dance, though. Even managed to get her number. She helped. (;

*putting a note in my calendar to try brasils this wednesday* yeah, rock lobster was sloww as well. i'm beginning to think it was me... i'm giving out some odd vibe that makes people stay away from the venue i'm at, and the men there want to hit on me. *pause* wait, maybe that's not a bad thing. :)

i'll have to show you the combo we did in the lesson. REALLY fun.

I can't do this Wednesday darn it! Not that you shouldn't, of course. And my absence is fringe-related, so I won't cry a river of tears.

Looking forward to picking up that combo.
