please, let me get through this evening full of work, and then the rest of the week will be fine... i'm on a deadline (when am i not), and the first big chunk is due tomorrow... if i can crank this out tonight, i might actually be able to spend tonight cleaning my house and prepping for L2's visit this weekend (yay!).

had my annual review yesterday... it was a great review, but the funny thing is, i don't remember a lot of the details of it. i remember certain phrases: "rising star in the company"... "amazing work ethic"... "creative"... but not the entire conversation. it's like, as soon as someone starts to compliment me, my brain shuts off. yet i can recall every word, every nuance when someone says something nasty to me, i wonder why.

i realized today that i never posted about my day sunday. it was a really interesting day, to say the least. it started with a road trip, or as i like to call it, "BurgerQuest 2006"... [livejournal.com profile] dhpdesign took the train out to the 'burbs in the morning, i picked him up and we set out on the road to lancaster county to get... BURGERS AT SONIC!!!! yay!!! we made it out there in about an hour and a half, and then hunkered down to a pile of burgers, tater tots, and funky drinks (mmmm... chocolate malt milkshake...). they were good burgers, not the best i've ever had but worth the fun and silly road trip. :)

after the lard feast, we headed back to philly for a show that night, the tribute for the guy M i knew who died recently of a brain tumor. it was an amazing evening -- a packed World Cafe Live with several hundred people who wanted to honor him and celebrate how he'd touched all of our lives. since mike was a big sketch and improv comedian, most of it was a retrospective of his work... first there was a performance of a sketch he'd written when he was an undergrad at penn (performed by the mask & wig guys he'd originally done it with)... then a bit he'd written once for a corporate gig... there was a big chunk of comedy sportz thrown in as well (really REALLY funny)... film clips of him performing when he was younger... a karaoke performance by "johnny vegas", a character he'd created... and my favorite, a xmas song sing-along led by one of his friends who used to get really demanding and anal when leading the sing-alongs at their xmas party every year. it doesn't do it justice to try to describe it, but this guy was basically a combination of every demanding gay musical director i ever encountered when i did musical theater. and it wasn't a character, he was serious. but dammit, we learned "carol of the bells" in 15 minutes and did it well!

it was a wonderful tribute. i've never seen anything like it, and never will again. his wife deserves a bunch of kudos for putting together such a positive way to celebrate his life, and double kudos for having the strength to stand on stage and address us and keep it together while her heart was breaking. and the same for B, my girlfriend who had been married to him a long time ago... she performed in several of the sketches, and i was really proud of her for both her performance and her ability to rise above. it gave me a lot to think about.

so that was my weekend. now back into work wackiness. but soon, L2's visit, and my housewarming BBQ, and that will be super cool.

It's good to have friends like you.

Because it guarantees that my death will be a production number.

No, no, that's not why. Because you can feel deeply and also go on with the joy in life. That's way important.

Looking forward to the hot BB on Q action! Oh wait, you invited someone whose actual initials are BB, and I know a guy named Quaf, and hey, they're the same height... nonono, bad idea, he's quite married.
