uncomfortable conversations

swingchickieuncomfortable conversation #1: my painter and i have been playing phone tag for a few days now, to talk about his final bill. when we'd talked about the design i wanted on my blue wall, he'd told me it would be around $150, then a few minutes later he upped it to $200. but when i got my bill 2 weeks later, he'd charged me $275... i'm assuming because his original technique didn't work and he had to come in for a few extra hours and fix it, and he wants me to cover the cost of his time. which i don't find cool at all. i left him a very pleasant voicemail asking if the $275 was a mistake, and he has not left a message back confirming that it was... so i know this conversation could get nasty. darnit.
uncomfortable conversation #2: i can't believe i forgot to post this, but i had "the talk" with my neighbor. i told her very nicely that she was a big enough help with my lawn (i pay her for that), and that she didn't have to worry about anything else (yes, she was the one who'd taken out my trash). the next night, she came over with a 6-pack of stella as a "peace offering" (her words), and apologized to me... she said she didn't want me to feel intruded upon, and that the reason she had done so much is that the couple who lived here before me didn't do anything to the house (no surprise there), and they had her do everything. so, she was trying to be a good neighbor and do what she always did, especially because she knew i worked long hours and traveled a lot. so, things have been very quiet and pleasant since.
uncomfortable conversation #3: cargo-shorts boy left me a voicemail last night, wanting to see me again. darnit, now i have to turn him down. he's a nice guy, do i clue him in (gently) to the clothing situation so he doesn't make that mistake with another gal? probably not. hrm.
