day off today.

swingchickiegot a personal day from my boss for the all of the hours i've been putting in. what am i going to spend it doing? housework. the security system's getting installed this morning, and then dad's coming over to take a trip to lowe's for hedge trimmers and a saw (for the 5 million downed branches in my yard) and other DIY-y goodness.
i didn't go out last night after all (i know, surprise surprise). i guess from my awful night's sleep the night before, i could barely walk by the end of the work day, i was so tired. i got home and managed to clean up most of the branches out of my yard, at least the big ones... you should see the pile at the end of my driveway. according to some neighbors who stopped by to say hi (everyone was out cleaning up after the storm), i got off easy -- one of the houses down the street had a GINORMOUS old tree that got completely uprooted. miraculously, it didn't fall on the house. and the nice woman and her kids who stopped over the other night with a bottle of wine?: massive, massive pile of big branches to deal with. the damage in my little neighborhood was enough that news vans were circling as we worked, looking for houses that looked bad enough to put on tv. so i guess i should thank my lucky stars!
the power came back on at 7:30 (it was off for 24 hours), but i still have no cable TV or internet service. great. and no AC downstairs -- it looks like the AC died during the storm. bleh.
so anyway, after cleaning up the yard, i was a sweaty grimy mess, so i took a cold shower and went down the street to eat so-so sushi and read the city paper and philly weekly. by the time i came back i was falling-down tired, so instead of going dancing i caught up on LJ and crashed early. yes, my exciting life. aren't you all jealous?
