i'm just throwing this out to the universe now: if anyone wants to call me, think like a telemarketer and don't do it before 9am or after 9pm. because i am probably sleeping those other times, and will get really really pissy.

i am seriously sleep-deprived this week, all due to friends calling me during off-hours. the other night C called at midnight, when i had been asleep for almost 3 hours already (i go to bed early during the week, which he knows)... as i sat there shaking because of the adrenaline surge i got when the loud ring scared the crap out of me, he was like, "i know you're sleeping, but i just had to call and hear your voice because i'm thinking about you." now, it's certainly nice that i have someone who thinks about me... but couldn't he think of me at, like, 8pm instead? and call me then? grrrrr. then this morning, M (who has insomnia) called me at 8am to chat. 8am on a saturday. to chat. if i could have jumped through the phone and strangled her, i would have.

one more time of this, and i'm turning the ringers off my phones. everyone can just leave me a message, and i'll call back whenever i check my voicemail. *pppfffttt*

*puts the receiver to his phone down and backs slowly away* :P

I usually get out a "not interested" and hang up the phone right away on telemarketers. One of these days, just for fun, I'm going to "snap out" on one of them and tell them off. Big time. Just for fun :)

Aw.

I encourage you to turn off the ringers at night, actually. There's damn little you could do anything constructive about if someone told you about it in the middle of the night.

As a parent I'm reluctant to do that when my daughter's not home. But if my kid's home I'll do it in a heartbeat.

not to be totally morbid, but 5 years ago my mom called me at 4am in a panic to tell me that her husband had just died at home unexpectedly. (when your phone rings at 4am, it's never good.) i was able to calm her down a bit and then jump in the car to rush down to philly. considering the age of my parents, that's pretty much the one thing that keeps me from turning off the phones at night... you just never know, you know? awful to have to think about...

Yeah, true enough. I guess the only real answer is to VIGOROUSLY EDUCATE those who call at unholy hours without SUFFICIENT JUSTIFICATION.

that's quite funny given our conversation this afternoon. :)

i'm totally in your camp on this issue; sleep is sacred, and woe unto thee who violateth my sacrecy.
