i'm ba-aaack...
May. 16th, 2004 09:04 amgod, i feel like i've been gone for a week, instead of only 4 days. i guess that's the mark of a good vacation. *grin*
went down to philly for work and stayed for a couple extra days to see family and friends. the drive down was an odd one... i stopped about 2 hours into it to stretch my legs at an outlet mall in connecticut... walked around for a bit, and just before i headed back to my car i heard someone calling my name... it was a former co-worker, who was walking her brand-new baby around in a stroller. what are the chances that i'd run into someone like that, hours from home, during a quick break? freaky. then just as i was about to hit NY, i heard on the radio that manhattan was having some sort of freak torrential thunderstorm with golf ball sized hail... it backed up rush hour for hours, 'cause no-one could even see to drive. so instead of taking me 6 hours to get home, it was 9 1/2. ugh.
friday was really nice. i'd worked thursday and wanted friday to just be relaxing... got a 9am massage at a local spa that rocked my world. seriously. i was so full of knots, and the guy who did the massage found every single one... i swear, he was so good, that it was almost like he knew my body better than a lover could. obviously the massage wasn't anything sexual, but it's been so long since anyone has been in any way in tune with me physically... i practically cried when it was over, because the experience had been almost transcendent.
spent the afternoon in the mall, and on a whim got a mani/pedi at the mall nail salon. (had her use my new polish on my toes... "sell out" by hard candy, it's bright green with gold glitter. gorgeous.) she offered to do my brows as well, which i'd never had done before. it scared the crap out of me (if your brows look bad, it's freakish), but i gave in, and it turned out to be cool. they look good. all told, the mani, pedi, and brow waxing came to a grand total of only $44. un-freaking-believeable.
spent a much-needed 4 hours with my best friend yesterday before driving back to boston. i only see her like once a year, because she has a husband and 2 little kids and so she can't get up here to visit. we just gabbed the whole time and drank blue raspberry martinis. her 2-year-old daughter is a riot... she has a toy barbie cell phone, and she sits there with it up to her ear and goes, "oh, hiiiii!!!" like a teenager, over and over again. she has a pair of pink rhinestone 1" mules that she wears around the house... she's two, and she can RUN in mules! good lord. at one point, she was sitting in her little toy car, wearing her mules, driving around the living room while talking on her barbie cell phone. i swear, she's a movie star in the making.
i have to work today. how do i work on a sunday after being in vacation mode for a few days? drat.
