i can't say this strongly enough...

see "Wall-E" while it's in theatres. please. really.

jack and i went last night, and it was so wonderful. i won't bore you with a review here, because i suck at movie explanations... there are some great ones on rottentomatoes.com if you want to look. i'll just say that it was funny, and thought-provoking, and so moving at times i had tears streaming down my face. and the animation is stunning -- there are times where i forgot i was watching an animated film.

oh, and the animated short before the movie? that alone was worth the price of admission. fall-out-of-your-chair funny.

i want to go to pixar and hug all of them for making this*. philly peeps, if any of you want to see it and want company i'll totally go again.

*in case you hadn't heard about this -- back when "toy story" was in production, the pixar honchos realized that if it was as big of a success as they anticipated, they were going to have to already have another movie or two in the works to follow up. so they went out to lunch and brainstormed. the result of that lunch? the ideas for "finding nemo", "monsters inc", "a bug's life", and "wall-e". (talk about the most well-spent lunch tab ever!) the cool thing is, knowing that they were going to make these movies, they started putting easter eggs about them in the other ones. so in "monster's inc", for example, the little girl hands sully a nemo doll, when "finding nemo" was years from being released. wall-e appears for a few seconds in each of them too, you can find some of the easter egg clips on youtube.

happys and sads

happy: a couple bought my deck off of craigslist, and are here to take it home.
sad: they didn't think it through and can't fit it in their u-haul... now jack is out there in the heat helping them to take it apart. not worth the $50 they gave me for it.

happy: i got an order for 2 hoops from a repeat customer today.
sad: for some reason they didn't get charged for the shipping (i don't know why, it's in the code for my shopping cart), so now i'm out $20 on the order.

uh... just. whoa.

jack and i just listened to this. and then i thanked him over and over again for being my boyfriend.

listen to the whole thing. seriously, it gets even better halfway through.

a tiny piece of my musical past, 20 years later.

i can't believe someone has a video of this and put it on youtube. "thai nana" by kazero is a little piece of 1987 french pop that a couple of girls in my class brought back from an exchange semester in france. i became obsessed with it even though i didn't know a word of french (still don't) -- i copied the song off one girl's tape and played it to death for years, i probably still have the cassette somewhere. over the years i've tried finding the CD, tried finding the song on itunes, nothing. now lo and behold, it's on youtube for me to enjoy.

the bummer is, i never knew what the guy looked like until now.... now i see that instead of this new-wave-ish french rockstar i imagined him to be, he's really kind of a dork with no rhythm. heh. but the song's still adorable.
