the morning was all about getting stuff done: the exterminator came to do his monthly sweep of the house*, i had a big meeting at work i had to call into, and then there were the 2 hoops to make and ship to CA for a customer. early afternoon when the hoops were all bubble-wrapped and ready to ship, i took them to the post office near work (because the workers there understand how to ship them and don't argue with me). we weighed and measured and got everything taken care of, but it did take a few minutes so i could sense a line of people growing behind me. when i finally turned around to leave, i glanced at the people in line... and jack was standing there! hee! it was such an awesome surprise to see him in the same post office as me at the same time, i got all doofy and jumped up and down and smooched him. it made my day, i grinned for the rest of the afternoon.

last night was date night, so we did a nummy indian dinner out and went to the movies. every 10-year-old boy in the county was lined up to see the new indiana jones movie, and doing the 10-year-old boy "i'm bursting with energy and i'm with a bunch of my friends so i'm going to run around and screech at the top of my lungs" thing... thank god we were going to something that wasn't an opening-weekend blockbuster: "young@heart". i can't recommend this movie enough, i absolutely loved it. try, TRY to see it while it's still in the theatres, or netflix it. it's a documentary about a chorus of elderly people (average age is 81) in MA who do covers of modern songs -- the clash, talking heads, coldplay, etc. i'd heard about them years ago when i was still living in boston, and thought the idea was awesome. what i didn't realize until seeing the movie was just how much a song can change when you have a much-older person singing it -- the words take on different meaning entirely. i'm not going to ruin the movie for you by launching into a review... i'll just say that i laughed like crazy, i cried, i was moved and uplifted. some of the rehearsal and concert footage had all of us (all 10 of us) in the theater cheering out loud at the screen. and i totally want to be in a chorus like that when i'm 81.

after the movies, we made it to rita's water ice right before they closed for the night. philly peeps: their new sweet tea flavored water ice is INSANE, especially if you get it layered with vanilla custard. drool.

*creepy story about the exterminator guy under the cut, since this post is getting long... )
