you're too broke to buy food, and burn all your calories by doing yard work. hee.
dad came over this morning to help tackle the yard. i'd already been up for a couple of hours moving boxes and furniture (since the painters come tomorrow), so by the time he got here i was already a sweatball. thank god it was cool this morning, we grabbed a bunch of trash bags and all of my new clipper-type things, and off we went. dad dealt with the bushes in front of the house, and they look SO much better... they had gotten so overgrown, you could barely walk along my front walkway. he trimmed them back so that the walkway is clear and they're nice and boxy and streamlined.
while dad clipped away, i broke down the massive pile of branches i'd made after this week's thunderstorm. it took a couple of hours, but i got everything chopped up and bagged. i have to say, it was actually fun -- dad had told me to get these lopper things, which chopped right through these big thick branches like they were toothpicks. every time i snipped one, it felt sooooo satisfying! hee! we also trimmed back the "tree of death", this big overgrown holly tree that some genius had planted right where the driveway meets the walkway... basically every day, when i get out of my car, i get beaned in the face with a bunch of prickly holly leaves. the tree is going to go eventually, it's completely out of place and painful to boot. :)
so, i'm amazed at how much the house is going to change within the next week... the bushes have been trimmed, my brother's going to start fixing the landscaping, the downstairs will be completely painted, and all my artwork and new light switchplates will be up. in one week. i am SO psyched.
