just another manic monday...
May. 15th, 2006 01:02 pmlotsa house things to take care of today. check in on the mortgage progress, make a list of what needs to be done for the move, find a mover, yadda yadda. the best was calling to check into homeowner's insurance with state farm:
me: hi, i have auto and renter's insurance through you, and i'm buying a house... i'm calling to check into your homeowner's insurance rates...
state farm guy: sure, can you spell your last name for me?
me: *spells last name*
state farm guy: is the policy under someone else's name?
me: no, why?
state farm guy: because i have no record of you having renter's insurance with us.
NICE. good thing nothing happened to my apartment in the last 6 months, or i would have driven my (insured) car right through their front window for that lovely mistake. that's a doozy.
the whole idea of owning this house is starting to freak me out. i'm excited, but the terror is setting in too. i guess it's because the home inspection gave me a reality check, that this is a building and it's subject to weather and bugs and appliances breaking and whatnot. i told a co-worker today, it would be like if i was dating someone new and totally in the beginning lovey-schmoopy phase, where they seem perfect... and then having a 3rd party evaluate them and say, "okay jenn, the guy is nice and attractive... however, his loud snoring may be a sleep hazard for you... he has commitment issues, so if you are looking for marriage this may be a concern... you should plan on his losing his hair within 5 to 10 years... he is unnaturally attached to his mother... and he hates animals. i'll e-mail you my report tomorrow." to learn all of the issues at once, it's a lot to digest, you know?
if i can stay awake, i'm going to check out a local west coast swing practice session tonight... i need to blow off some steam!
