swingchickie: (house)
my tummy was really bothering me. i think it's all the stress/excitement about the new house... i've got so much to think about, so much money to save in the next couple months! of course, some of the money i'll need is for fun stuff... i went to target yesterday afternoon, and it took all of my self-control to not start buying fun deck accessories and picnic plates and citronella candles. seriously, it was HARD. after being in the house again yesterday, i have a sense for what i'm going to do with each room, and i think it's going to turn out really nice:

living/dining room: i want to stay with the "1960s california beach house" vibe that i'm feeling with all of that light and open space... but my furniture is so dark and chunky (the influence of 9 years in boston, i guess)... i think light (maybe white) curtains, some plants, and some light-colored accessories will help to balance out the stuff i own. i went to home depot yesterday and grabbed a bunch of paint color swatches... i'm going to paint back all of those walls to white (they're all gold now), except for the one tall wall that will become an accent wall with some pale shade of blue on it, perhaps a robin's-egg color.

"austin powers room": i'll still have the red and white austin powers room, but the walls there are all bead board so i can't do those red decal dots 'cause of the texture. meh. so i have an idea for a red and white painting that i could get done and hang in there.

bedroom: again going with the beach house thing... if i rearrange some of the furniture and accessories i own now, i can make my bedroom into a sort of tiki-themed room. the good thing is that the bedroom is already painted a pale blue, so i don't have to paint in there. my giant 7' floor mirror will probably have to go in here, because i can't think of a place for it downstairs (except the dining area, and i'm not in love with that idea).

office: bedroom #2 will have my computer (need to finally break down and buy a desk) and the two dark brown bookshelves that are in my living room right now (it would be too much dark furniture if i keep them in the living room).

dressing room: i was trying to think of what to do with bedroom #3, which is very small... it's currently a baby room, with lilac and yellow walls and glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. needless to say, that will get painted. :) i got an idea from one of the LJ decorating communities i joined: making it into a guest room/dressing room! if i can pick up a cheapie futon and antique vanity, and throw some sparkly accessories around, i can turn it into a funky little dressing area (there isn't a ton of closet space in the house) that people can stay in when they come to visit.

obviously this painting and accessorizing is not all going to happen at once... i need to save my money for important things like, oh, a REFRIGERATOR... darn current owners went back and forth on whether they were going to leave it (she likes it, he doesn't), and they finally decided to take it with them. so i think having food in the house is now pretty high on the priority list... gonna have to take a trip to best buy and sears...
