so much for going out today... it's been gorgeous outside, very spring-y and warm... D went for a walk at noon to get omelet makings, and came back saying that the weather was absolutely stellar. but then we made brunch (omelets stuffed with spinach, goat cheese, and chicken herb sausage), and sat talking and talking over coffee... now that we're showered and ready to go out, it's 4:30pm and gray out and we just heard thunder. damiit. *chuckle*

but yesterday was a lovely day, really lovely. we drove down to RI to help his mom get her planters ready for the summer... yes i met his mom, she's a sweet woman and i can see where he got some of his personality traits from. D was going to do all the dirt transfer-y stuff, and then after an hour we were going to drive to newport and spend the rest of the day walking around... so he was in old clothes for the yard work, and i was in a skirt and t-shirt. but the job ended up being bigger than we thought... his mom had a MASSIVE pile of dirt that had to be moved to make way for the barrels she'd be planting in... so i grabbed a shovel and helped out. we hauled dirt for about 4 hours, and by the time we were done i was exhausted and filthy, but it felt GREAT.

we didn't leave his mom's until about 7pm, and i was ravenous from all the hard work. after pondering for a while, i remembered a great restaurant nearby that was perfect, called the Back Eddy... everything they use in the restaurant is from local merchants -- seafood from local fisherman, cheeses and produce from local farms, even the wine and beer is local. PLUS, the restaurant is right on the water. the place was packed, but we were seated out on the back deck within about a half hour, and we tucked in to one of the best meals i've had in a while -- he got clam and corn chowder, and an order of clams stuffed with chorizo sausage (i had a taste of each, yum yum)... then i had a "clambake" of steamers, mussels, sausage and cod baked in parchment, while he had an order of massive scallops wrapped in bacon. somehow we actually had room for dessert -- a strawberry and rhubarb crisp with whipped cream. and all this was with a glass of sparkling wine, as the sun set over the water next to us. it was absolute heaven, i felt like i was away on a beach vacation. i left there so relaxed and happy, i fell asleep in the car on the drive home. :)

and the best part of the weekend is... NO WORK TOMORROW!!! yaaaaaayyyyyyyy!
