soooooo... hard...

wow, this is harder than i thought. the morning started out okay, i woke up at 6am (damn cats) and checked e-mail and had breakfast. did some dishes. showered. gave myself a mani and pedi. by this time it was 9am, and i was like, "uh..." what was i to do for the rest of the day?

while my nails dried, i took a 2-hour nap to catch up on the sleep the cats had robbed from me. got up and read a little bit ("me talk pretty one day" by david sedaris, very very funny), and then decided to go to the movies. the day was gorgeous, the weather was absolutely perfect and it put me in a great mood. before the movie i headed to a cambridge store called the Garment District... it's a great vintage/kitch store that i hadn't been to in years. downstairs they have boxes of clothes that you tear through, bag up what you like, and pay $1 per pound for... upstairs is the nicer stuff, 2 huge rooms filled with rows and rows of vintage dresses, legwarmers, Manic Panic products, and more costume wigs than you could shake a feather boa at. i tried on a pile of winter sweaters, and was thiiiis close to getting an adorable 1960s cropped jacket with 3/4 length sleeves, done in pink brocade with rhinestone buttons. but one of the buttons was missing, and the other two had rhinestones gone, so re-doing it seemed like too much trouble. i will say, though, i've been thinking abot it all day... i might go back next weekend and get it if it's still there.

the movie was a lot of fun. i really like going to the movies by myself, because i can sit where i want and do my own thing. the kendall theatre (near MIT) is great because they sell top-notch concessions -- cappuccinos, huge cookies from dancing deer, brownies from rosie's bakery nearby... and their popcorn is made with real butter! so i got a little thing of popcorn and a soda and plunked myself down in the back row to see "napoleon dynamite". GOD was it funny. it makes you totally uncomfortable, and it's so dark at times, but i was laughing until tears were in my popcorn. jon heder, who plays napoleon, is brilliant in this... and you gotta love a movie that includes numerous references to tater tots, an interpretive dance to a Jamiroquai song, awful 80s fashion, and a grandmother with a llama named Tina. ::chortle:: i just might have to buy the DVD when it's out.

the evening's been uneventful. been doing some work, and trying to figure out what to do besides watch tv!!!!! ack!!!! sunday is "law and order" night for me usually, so this is really really hard. weep for me.
