...for a long catch-up. peter left at 6am this morning (ugh) to go back to philly, and the cats and i went back to bed and snored for another 4 hours... so now, armed with extra sleep and a big-ass mug o' coffee, i can recount the last few days.

let's see... peter arrived around 10:30pm on wednesday. within an hour angus, who was thrilled to see him, had hauled his 15-lb. blorpy frame up onto the dresser and knocked his cell phone to the floor, breaking it almost in two. great. the next day we spent some time driving around boston, and i took him to one of my favorite places -- the trident on newbury street, a bookstore/cafe with amazing food. as soon as we left, i got violently ill and had to cut the day short so i could lie on the sofa at home and writhe in pain. the next morning, i brought peter coffee in bed to be cute, and accidentally spilled his scalding hot coffee on his FACE. (waking up with boiling coffee in your eye has to be the worst ever.) that afternoon, walking around salem, i got a massive painful sunburn, and then we had to spend our last evening together going to a mensa gathering because i'd already promised the mensa folks i would.

*sigh*.

despite someone "up there" having a great laugh at our expense, we did have a lovely visit. as usual, we spent huge amounts of time talking and learning about one another (i now know how he likes his coffee... cream, no sugar, and not poured in an eye socket)... we spent a lovely afternoon in salem, walking the tiny streets and stopping in some of the little shops that sold supplies for spells (they sell all kinds of beautiful stones too, and peter had designed an amulet that he wants to make for me to help with my stomach problems. it's gorgeous). we had a nice lunch at a local restaurant, and as is typical of peter, he upped the romance factor of it by writing me love notes on his napkin and passing them across the table. ::grin:: he also bought me an amazing gift -- a little ring made entirely out of goldstone, which is one of my favorite stones 'cause it's peach-colored and super sparkly. i've been wearing it non-stop.

oh, he also brought me another lovely gift when he arrived on wednesday... a penny from 1793. wow. it's huge, and has lady godiva on one side and an elephant and castle on the other. it's amazing -- i now own something mroe than 200 years old! ::grin:: he's so thoughtful, sometimes i just don't know how to handle it.

gastronomically, we made out very well... he let me cook for him thursday night, i made a family chicken recipe and we figured out how to use the rice cooker he'd sent me last week. last night was takeout from the awesome indian restaurant down the street... peter had never had indian food before, so i loaded him up with samosas and shrimp korma. oh, AND... if anyone is looking for a great recipe to bring to a potluck party... mexican chocolate fondue is the way to go. it's super easy, and i got raves for it at the mensa party. god bless the food network.

what else? oh, a FREAK of a storm pounded boston right before we left for the party last night. the sky turned green, the wind kicked up, and the next thing we knew, huge torrents of rain and hail pummeled the building. it was gorgeous. we just stared out the window and marvelled at all the carnage.

::sigh:: so, now the apartment is emptier and quieter. today will be a lazy day... maybe catch an independent film down the street, go dancing tonight... eat some indian leftovers and replay the last few days in my mind.

thanks for a lovely visit, [livejournal.com profile] 12thknight. life is good.

::deep breath::

starting tomorrow, i am turning off my TV for a week.

peter and i talked about this during his visit. a few years ago, when i was subject for that weight/lifestyle makeover book, one of the things they had me do was turn off my TV for a week, then another week. i was spending so much time plugged in, that i wasn't being physically active and the days were dragging by. i'm realizing that the same thing is happening again, ever since stuff started going downhill with the ex. and now i'm in an electronic rut.

sooo... for the next week, i'm not going to have the TV on at all. and i'm barely going to be on the computer. my evenings will be spent doing other things -- reading, exploring my town, whatever... i'm just going to take the time to do new things, or things i haven't done in forever. (that'll be my little bit of computer time, posting the results.) we'll see how the experiment goes.

as far as today goes, it's been an odd day. my stomach's a mess, the apartment is hot as blazes (i didn't shower today because i can't stop sweating, there's no point), and i'm just exhausted. i started reading, and fell asleep for another 2 hours. jeez. somehow i have to pull myself together so i can go dancing. i miss it.

tried logging onto ISPQ again. can't get into it, it just seems so predatory. there's a "best smile" contest coming up, though... soooo tempting...

and, oh... just so you know... i have Cake concert tickets, and you don't. neener neener.

at least the september "in style" magazine is out now. that'll keep me occupied for, like, an hour. woo.
