(a little james brown on a monday morning...)

i decided on a whim last night to go dancing. it was 5:30 and i was just about to make some dinner, and i looked at the clock and wondered what what the heck i was going to do for the rest of the evening... at right at that moment, my Outlook calendar popped up a reminder that there was a hustle/west coast swing dance at 7pm in manayunk. i was feeling tired, but i threw caution to the wind and showered, made myself up, and headed out for the 7pm hustle lesson before the dance. (i KNEW i was doing the right thing last week when i put a bunch of dance classes and swing dances in my calendar... easier to get me off my butt!)

the dance was FUN. the crowd's a little bit older (in some cases, a lot older) than the west coast crowd i danced with in boston, but everyone was amazingly nice and welcoming. the guy at the front door, as soon as he found out i had recently moved here and it was my first hustle lesson, started handing me all these flyers and wrote down a bunch of places i should go dancing. other people who i danced with were giving me their opinions on the best places to go, and one guy even told me his schedule of when and where he goes dancing in the hopes that i'd go some of those nights. *chuckle* even women were chatting with me; it was just a really nice group of people.

and the dance itself is a hoot! i'm a little worried that my right butt cheek is going to be more developed than my left, because of that big weight-bearing rockstep (hee)... but it was easy to pick up and will be fun to mix in with west coast swing. and what a great workout... i was a sweaty mess by the time i left, but so energized, i did my grocery shopping at 10:30 on the way home. although getting up at 5:30 this morning really stunk, i'm wiped. :)

so, in one weekend i have de-mystified two dances that i'd been thinking of attending for months. now that i know where they are and what they're like, i'll be going a lot more often!

Glad you had fun! And I love the idea of load-bearing buttcheeks. That makes me laugh out loud.

Karaoke was very Sex Dwarf-driven. I busted out:

Ever Fallen In Love (Buzzcocks, several popular covers)
A Little Respect (Erasure)
Nothing Compares 2 U (Sinead version)
Ziggy Stardust (Bowie, of course)

Best lines of the night:

"We're not at work! I can ask you this! Are you gay?" - Gal at the bar, after the Erasure song (of course)

"So, what are you avoiding?" - Tom to another gal at the bar, after watching her toy with and not really read a textbook for the 48th time
